F on Pass/Fail

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How would I address it? In reality, I had a really bad semester (also received my first non-A that semester) and went through a break up (first and only gf) and had family problems at the same time. I have heard it is not good to talk about relationship issues, so do you have any suggestions?

Also, are they consistent with AMCAS in not counting it in my GPA?

In my opinion, you have reasons for your performance. Just try to make sure that when you are asked about this grade you explain the circumstances without coming off as making excuses. Take responsibility for your grade and explain what you have learned from that semester so it doesn't happen again.

Not sure about AMCAS GPA, but I'm sure AAMC addresses this question on their website in one of the large "About AMCAS" pdfs.

Overall, since you note it is your first non-A grade I'm sure the rest of your academic performance shows that this one F is not illustrative of your academic record.

It won't affect your GPA, which is more important.

Definitely do NOT bring up your relationship issues. If I were interviewing you, not only would I laugh at you, but I would immediately revoke your man card.

These h**s ain't loyal.

That being said, one F in a pass or fail class won't break you.
