So there is a new scoring system starting this Spring. Anyone have any idea what a good priority score is? What will place you in the upper 25% or so? Thanks.

That is an excellent question. I would like to know, as I am sitting on a recently scored app under the new system, and my PO won't give me heads or tails regarding the breakdown in the SRG.

Frustrating.

I think no one knows with these first few rounds what a fundable score is.

Hey guys, I just got my score and percentile. Since I am right under 25th percentile (24th), you could possibly use my score as a gauge (based on new system). Although, I believe this will vary by study section and/or institute. 31=24 percentile. Now, whether this will be funded or not is an entirely different question 🙂 I'm planning to give my PO a call in the coming days to get some insight. I have a feeling this is borderline score...Good luck to you both!

FWIW, my PO was never particularly helpful on this point. They would tell me the range of scores that had previously been the cutoff, but that was a very broad range. They would not tell me any score to percentile translations or the percentiles that were previous cutoffs.

My first score came back borderline. It took a long time after the committee and funding decision dates to find out if I was funded. I had to write a number of times, and I only got word my first submission wouldn't be funded until about 6 months after I expected I would know. On the resubmission there were some paperwork delays and confusion that held the funding up another several months. I wrote the grant in my second year of grad school and finally started funding just in time to finish grad school, much to the ire of my PI.

Have fun dealing with the NIH!

I submitted Aug 08. Based on what my PO said cutoff scores for the NIDDK section he was in used to be around 160, but for the Aug 08 submission round that was bumped up to just under 200. He said it was likely that 190-200 would be the new cutoff range for the next several cycles, but was a little fuzzy about percentile translations as well.

If it helps here's a rough timeline for my Aug 2008 submission with NIDDK:

08/08 submitted
10/08 SRG meeting
11/08 scores posted
03/09 funding decision posted on commons
05/09 university receives activation notice
