hey guys,
I was just flipping through the new first aid and it's a pretty new format from the previous one as most of you already know. Does anyone have input on any advantages or disadvantages between the two. I used the 2005 version for my classes last term---didn't take too many notes on it, but still fear making the switch.

Thanks! 😛

does your school use a systems based curriculum? mine uses that approach so I just feel more comfortable with the layout of FA 2006. thats the only reason I bought the new edition, if your school has a traditional curriculum than FA 2005 would probably flow better for you.

My school has a systems based curr. and I've already spent a decent amount of time highlighting and annotating the 2005 edition. The 2006 looked great to me but I was worried that some of the sections had disappeared ( I think the acclaimed pharm). I'm wondering if they have been well incorporated into the systems section.

I like the new layout though. I kind of want to buy the new book and spend some time with it but I've got to cut myself off because I don't want to get spread too thin.

Although it is better organized it is still mostly (with a few exceptions) the same exact material. Do keep in mind that FA is merely the cookbook to success and should be used mainly to guide you and not as your source (except for pharm which is rumored to be comprhensive)....stay with your 2005 that is familiar...if you need it systems based, take it to staples or kinkos, have them cut off the spine, three hole punch it (4$) and arrange it as such. You can overcome any "but there is renal on one side of the page and cardio on the other with a simple photocopy". The three ring binder allows you to add in a sheet of paper with good notes or pics of your own, things that FA glosses over (most things). JMHO.

Could you please elaborate on what you mean by "sections had disappeared ( I think the acclaimed pharm)"? Do you mean gone or just moved to another chapter in the book? Gone would not make any sense.

Thanks

Well, I breezed through it quickly but what I noticed was that there was no longer an Anatomy section (as there was in '05) but there was a new Embryo section (which had previously been incorporated INTO the anatomy section). But looking through the systems pages, it seemed that a lot of the anatomy was in there, although I didn't really study it to make sure it as ALL there. I imagine it was. Also I didn't see a separate Pharm section as there had been in the past, but I could be wrong.

mcandy: Thanks for the reply. My plan has been to get the BRS and HY books that people recommend but of course I'd like to have the best guide in the mean time. I know that keeping the '05 one is best but there is always some worry when things change.

FA '06 has a Pharm section but its small, about 15 pages. I havent really looked through that section yet but that section seems to just cover the basics. From flipping through the book, the rest of the pharm seems to be embedded in the individual organ chapters.
