On page 226 of FA 2012 it says that TH1 helper cells secrete IFN gamma and IL-2 to activate macrophages and cytotoxic t cells.
On page 196 of FA 2013, they completely took out any mention of cytotoxic T cells being activated by TH1 helper cells and said that TH1 cells only secrete IFN gamma.

What gives? which one is correct?

Nevermind, the new version has it right.

That's weird. We were taught that IL-2 was secreted by TH1, and it enhanced growth and expression of IL-2 receptors for itself and for other T cells. Wikipedia supports it under "Function." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interleukin_2

I think the important thing to know is that IL-12 from macrophages turns T-cells into the TH1 subset(activation), and the TH1 subset secretes IFN-gamma to activate macrophages.

FA2013 p.196 says something about TNF-alpha and IL-1 from macrophages doing this, but I think that's wrong or at least minimal compared to IL-12.

Everything you said is correct. I just spent an hour figuring that out by confirming first aid from different sources. I guess first aid is doing a much better job in its 2013 edition.
