hey guys, so I was doing GI pharmacology and on first aid it says that Ondansetron causes Serotonin Syndrome. I'm confused how it causes that? I tried to look for it in Boards and Beyond, as well as NCBI. B&B didn't even mention it, NCBI states: "The 5-HT3 antagonists do not possess the pharmacological properties necessary to contribute to serotonergic effects and are not reliably documented as causing or contributing to ST. To justify the postulate that they are involved in ST will require clear and convincing evidence, which does not presently exist".

So, is this something I shouldn't pay attention to? Or am I missing a piece of info here, such as some high/toxic dose?

Thanks in advance :)

Keep it simple.

Anything that is an agonist to the 5-HT receptor(s) or prevent the reuptake of serotonin can cause Serotonin Syndrome...... Like TCAs, Toradol, Meperidine, MDMA, St. John Worts, etc
