I agree with a sentiment that if school is questioning absence of a Facebook page - it is not worth going to. This is not Soviet Union and people should have an expectation of privacy and be presumed innocent until proven guilty. Besides, there are legitimate reasons to change your name on Facebook like a stocker.

I'm curious to know what's a "stocker", so I can be on the lookout.
Also, the US is heading in the direction of the Soviet Union with the NSA keeping confidential records of our phone calls etc... curious to know what Snowden and other leakers have found so far, but that's besides the point.

Hardly. It happened - ColeSmalls ended up buying gold donor, changing his name and disappearing from SDN. Pretty much any pre-med's worst nightmare.

The comments were made on the school's facebook page - I don't know if it's known whether someone reported his comments to the school or if the school was monitoring that facebook group. His SDN identity was easily identified from his facebook profile. I'm not sure if more comments were found after his SDN profile was discovered.
The take-away point I got from that fiasco - don't be public on SDN if you make comments you wouldn't want everyone linking to you (whether that is sharing personal info or making controversial statements or in this case, potentially offensive statements).
And I don't think it needs to be said to watch what you say in a facebook group - that probably isn't something that most of us need to worry about though. I can't imagine getting into a verbal argument on facebook with future classmates, or anyone for that matter.

He had also been in an argument with a member on SDN who some suspect actually contacted the school and complained about his behavior both on SDN and facebook.

I would make sure i actually knew all of my friends, and I'd probably make sure there wasn't any unprofessional content anyway.

When he died at the end of "This is the End" I was legitimately sad. Why couldn't he just keep his big mouth shut and go to heaven?! He's been my man crush ever since I first watched Freaks and Geeks.
I honestly wouldn't want to go to a school that rejects me because of my religion, or because I have "socialism" or "capitalism" under my political beliefs.

hahahaha. I thought this was a recent post. I honestly have no idea how I even ended up in this thread. Gotta not go on SDN at 5 am maybe.
Mine says I live in a city in a certain Northern European country and I even put their local high school and university in my education. 😉

Personally, I don't mind if they look at our facebooks because that's just another way for them to check to see if they are who we're telling them we are. Just be careful as to what you put online.
