i feel like there is a lot of paranoia about that on these boards (pre allo especially) but ive never heard of anything happening b/c of some pictures on facebook. Just be smart about it. They aren't dumb, they no you are in college, probably party occasionally, and do other college related stuff. Just dont have any nake dpictures of yourself doing a keg stand and i dont see how there would ever be a problem.
Just set your profile to friends only and they won't see them if they try looking.
Big brother is watching ....
Just do what girls seem to be doing on facebook these days: You install so many applications on your facebook that whenever someone attempts to view it their computer crashes.
haha.. yeh that's really annoying.. i hate facebook apps! (i only have 2.. pandora and arrested development)Just do what girls seem to be doing on facebook these days: You install so many applications on your facebook that whenever someone attempts to view it their computer crashes.

do yourself a favor and set up an appointment at the genius bar at your local apple store. show them how it crashes, lags and stalls, and that you are dissapointed and I bet you they will try and fix the problem. Your computer came with a year warranty so its free, and if youre wise, you got apple care to keep that warranty for 3 years in case you have more probs down the road. as an devout apple user, i hate to hear when somebody gets turned off to their product by problems. if theres one thing apple is known for, its customer satisfaction. do it.

OHHH !!!! OHHH !!! I knew it was too good to be true. I'm starting the thread to have Chocolate Bear removed as a MOD.

That is all. 😎
I read an article on CNN that some of the Ivy league schools for undergraduate were looking at facebook profiles and such. That being said, I still didn't change mine and mine contains tons of inappropriate pictures and such.
It would surprise me if they didn't look at facebook accounts.

But what can they actually see? People can only look at profiles that are on the same network, which the adcom and you aren't (unless you went to the undergrad). So they can only see the main picture. Nothing special there. Unless facebook gives us some a master key to universities, I doubt it... but you never know.

Or unless a school goes "Let me see your facebook page". "No? Why not? Is there something there you don't want us to see? Hmm... Yeahhhhh thank you for coming in".
Just FYI, I know for a fact that the Dean of KCOM is a facebooker. Doubt if he is snooping on anyone though. I will say this, everyone is trying to gain entry into one of the most "professional" of all professions. It is important to always be mindful of the images you are putting out over the internet.

Medicine isn't as professional as they like to appear. I've heard people make fun of patients, say inappropriate things regardless of situation, and a whole laundry list. Most people just want to feel confident in your abilities. At one time it was the gentleman's profession where one didn't touch or request anything of the patient. I do believe that professionalism and trust go hand in hand most of the time, but there is much more wiggle room than one suspects. It varies by speciality too.

Well 'all the time' is a bit of an exaggeration.
But i got the standard macbook this past july, not sure the stats on it, but sometimes it just lags pretty bad. Doing stupid things like only haveing 1 or 2 safari windows open.
Im kind of worried about running more programs you know?
Also, i've noticed fairly often that programs will not respond and then ill have to 'force quit' them.
PCs weren't any better don't get me wrong. But I feel like there is alot of mac propaganda out there. Macs are no better then PCs, except with a mac you will pay 2x the price, with 1/2 the functionality (as not so many programs are cross platform).

I usually have 8+ tabs across multiple windows of Safari, as well as Word, Excel, iCal, Mail, and Stickies open--very little lag. My MacBook is several years old, too.
Kinda sounds like yours has an actual problem, given your situation and dissatisfaction.
Oh and I rarely have to force quit anything. It's usually Microsoft Excel, if anything. 🙄

Facebook is fair game always. Be aware that sometimes you will get a 3rd or 4th year student as an interviewer and you can bet your behind that they are most likely avid FB users. I read an article earlier about facebook screwing with med students, but you had to be doing something overtly stupid, such as being in racist groups or groups that are named "I'm only becoming a doctor for the chicks" or "Future doctor looking for hot wife to spend his money" or something else along the lines of having a picture up of yourself in a lab coat that says Dr. Keovorkian.
Just be smart people and you'll be fine. Nobody is going to guillotine you for holding a drink in your hand in a picture if they see it, but don't put one up of you passed out drunk in your own vomit with sharpie drawings all over your face and a firecracker in your coin purse.
