Any OMFS residents out there considering a facial cosmetics fellowship. I've been toying with the idea....but I don't really know if it will be worth it...I know alot of guys who went to a 1 year facial cosmetics fellowship and all they end up doing is pulling wisdom teeth like everybody else.
Sometimes I think to get really validated by your medical colleagues and to the community in general you have to subject yourself to a full plastics residency and possibly a facial cosmetics fellowship off of plastics depending where you went.

Or I could just pull out teeth all day and be smiling on my way back to my beachfront house in the palisades 😕

i personally have no interest in cosmetics. 2 options though, move to the south or persue a non-omf cosmetic residency. if you are a licensed m.d., your eligible, though a don't know how competitive you'll be.

One of our attendings has done a 1yr cosmetics fellowship at University of Florida. He is extremely discontent as he is still limited to dentoalveolar stuff. The chief of our program on the other hand does a lot of cosmetic stuff (primarily brow lifts).

I think it all depends on marketing.... however know this, if anything happens there will be line of plastic surgeons waiting to help the judge nail your ba!!s to the wall.

Personally, if I did go into OS, I would stick to dentoalveolar surgeries and implantology as my bread and butter. For excitement, trauma, reconstruction and craniofacial deformities would be what I would indulge in. As far as chasing cosmetic procedures just to be included in the "plastics club" is a total waste of time.

However, if one does want to expand into cosmetic surgery, I would hope they do a cosmetics fellowship. does anyone know how competitive they are? and do they have a stipend?
