I've had a few faculty members (prosth, perio, OS) that I worked with in clinic send me and other classmates a FB friend request. Don't you think that's kinda awkward? Ever had that happened to you? Would you decline or accept?

It is OK. Make sure they are not too friendly in person

I don't think you should unless you're in your senior year. At my school many faculty date their students...kinda creepy.

At my school, almost every faculty member is on FB. Administrators and even hygienists are on FB as well. I never got a FB request from them, but I blocked all of them on FB. You are in a sticky situation and have to accept some of them. Try to see whether you change FB privacy settings to see whether you can stop certain 'friends' from seeing certain content. In the meantime, try to find the faculty that haven't FB requested you and go ahead and block them so you can avoid this whole uncomfortable situation.

At my school, we have faculty that constantly hit on the girls. One of the PG residents even married a D2. We've got lots of girls in my class and other classes as well who try to hook up with an upperclassman, or even a fellow classmate who is good at lab, just to use that person to get help in lab and get their lab projects done. Purely using someone. Absolutely disgusting. But then again, every aspect of my school from the administrators to the students to the faculty to everything is just total slime!!!

What's the issue anyway? You are all adults who in a few years will be on the same level as your faculty. Unless you went to Loma Linda for undergrad, I don't see why any of these is surprising.

It is just unprofessional. Faculty is in a position of power and any inappropriate or unwanted attention maybe interpreted as a sexual harassment. Same goes for dating your patients

I agree entirely. As long as that faculty member doesn't have influence of your grading, there is no fraternization/conflict of interest to be had.

From my medical ethics class: you can discharge them from your practice to date them.

I'm friends in Facebook with some of my faculty. It's totally fine. I have always kept my profile professional and I am already married so it's not like they want anything from me. I see no problem with it.
