Hello,
I have been accepted to PBA for the fall 2008. I am new to the whole loan process thing. I see that one of the requirement for federal Graduate Plus loan is to fill the FAFSA application. When do we actually fill it? Do we do it now or later? Do we submit 2007-2008 FAFSA application or do we submit FAFSA 2008-2009 application. Thanks.

Fill out the 2008-2009 app. Submit it as soon as you can. I think the first date it could be turned in was March 1, but they keep accepting it for a long time.

This is in no way bashing the original poster, but everytime I see a question about how to fill out the FAFSA or how to apply for loans I'm a bit flabbergasted. Didn't you fill out one for your previous undergrad years? Even if you don't qualify for grants or for loans, a lot of schools require you to fill out a FAFSA to get scholarships, too. Or have you had your education completely paid for by someone else until this point?

Again, I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just trying to understand here.

I have been here in the US for the past 4.5 years and I completed my Undergraduate degree outside the US. I am neither a US citizen nor a permanent resident. I have applied for my green card and is in final stage of getting it. I graduated with an AA degree last fall and completed my pre-requisites at a community college. I have never ever applied for educational loans or scholarships before. And you are right my tuition so far has been paid by my husband(I did not work because my visa did not permit me to work). I recently got my SSN.

I am actually in the same situation, so I had a lot of questions when I was filling out the FAFSA. I still don't know if I did it correctly! I know at my school we are not required to fill out a FAFSA. I thought it would be a waste of time anyway in undergrad because I don't qualify for anything because of my parents.

Fill out your FAFSA ASAP. The sooner the better. If you think you don't qualify, apply anyways. It's better to find out that you officially don't qualify then to not find out that you actually qualify for a free education.

Definitely fill out your fafsa form as quickly as you can, even if you are not in a pharmd program yet. The faster you finish it, the faster the school you are interested can put together a financial aid package for you. You don't want to wait til the last minute, and find out you need to come up with xxx amount of dollars.

As for paying for pharmacy school, you should be able to get federal loans and if you still need more money, you can get private loans. If you are over 21, your not a dependant anymore, and FAFSA doesn't require your parents info, and the amount you can get is not dependent on your parent's financial resources. It will state on the FAFSA form whether or not your parents need to fill it out.

As for international students, last time I heard is that you are not qualified for fafsa (federal loans included), but this is coming from the horses mouth (namely, me) so I would call fafsa directly, or the financial aid department of the school you want to attend to discuss other funding options.

I completely agree with mrblah. Fill your FAFSA as soon as you can. It only takes 30 to 45 mins. If you are over 21 and going to Grad school, you do not need your parents info.. FAFSA web site shows deadlines by the state. But Schools have their own deadlines which are sooner than the state ones. You can put up to ten school names on your form. If you don't know where you are going, then put all the names you have applied to.
By the way be careful about the bogus sites. They look authentic and will ask you for a fee. Filling the FAFSA is free. The site is xxx.fafsa.ed.gov/. All other ones are bogus.

Okay, I'm new to this whole FAFSA thing, too. So, bear with me. I just submitted my application yesterday. My question is, what happens now? I know I have to wait for my school to put together the financial aid package for me but then what? Do I still have to fill in applications for banks who will actually loan me the money or does my school take care of that?

PS. I read the threads under the financial aid forum but I didn't find anything that answers my questions.

i have filled out my fafsa including all the pharmacy schools that ive applied to, even though i don't know my status...

ive applied to 9 schools, had 2 interviews, and still awaiting for others to reply about status..
in the meantime do i also include graduate schools into fafsa NOW???
plan B is to do a masters.

Everybody keeps saying to fill fafsa as soon as possible but I'm seeing a different deadline for 2008-2009. I may be mistaken but here is the link:
