Hi all,

Can anybody tell me why after you fill out your information and FAFSA determines that you are considered an independent student, it suggests that you include your parents income information if you are in a healthcare field (pre-med, nursing)? What does that have to do with anything?

Hi there,
Some schools will base their "need-based" scholarships on parental income and student income. My medical school would not give "need-based" scholarships to students who had not included parental income on both FAFSA and the schools FA forms together. It didn't matter if the student was 50 years old, they still had to put this info on their FAFSAs and FA applications. Unless your parents were deceased, you needed to include this info.
