Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out this whole financial thing. I've been accepted to my top choice, so I want to be as prepared as I can be trying to get finaid. At all the finaid sessions, they say not to send in your FAFSA until February (after you file your taxes) even though the FAFSA opens early Jan, right? I'm in my gap year right now, but my income is pretty small. My parents are retired and do not make much money now, but they will still be a large contributor to my medical education. Is it still in my best interest to send it in Feb? How long does FAFSA take to process?

It doesn't matter. For medical school you will get federal loans to the full COA of the school.

If you have your paperwork in order, then file your taxes as soon as you can in January, then use your income tax info to fill out the FAFSA. FAFSA doesn't take long at all to process, but it may take a while for the school to send you your aid package.
