hi~

i was wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me. i haven't submitted my fafsa yet because i haven't received financial aid packets from the schools i'm interested in (ucla & ucsf). does anyone know how the fafsa works and what might happen if you submit your application after the 3/2 deadline? i heard that the deadline is only important if you want to get a grant...but for professional schools, there's a different schedule...am i right???? getting a bit anxious... 🙁 please help!

You need to fill out the FAFSA online.

There is a section where you indicate all the schools you are applying to.

You should do that ASAP!!!!!!!

thanks for the quick reply lucidreamer! 🙂 so you'd suggest sending in your fafsa app regardless of whether you're accepted or not?

has anyone out there not yet send in their fafsa yet? if so, what do you plan on doing? did anyone confirm that it's ok to complete the fafsa app later than 3/2??

wasabi00,

I'm gonna have mine done by tomorrow. You can put both UCSF and LA ( God I only wish I had your choices) as your school choices, no need to wait till you pick the one you wanna go to.

I just talked to Tufts (where I'm probably gonna go) and they want everything in their office by may 1st, given the six week processing time, you wanna get it done by march 15th. you need you and your parents tax info. I wouldn't be anxious if I were you, you're pretty much gauranteed 38,500 stafford loans which is more than what you need for uc schools. For me, its a different story!!

hey babakaram...

thanks for your input!! that really helped get things in perspective for me...i was just worried that i wouldn't be able to get my loans since i haven't yet completed my fafsa...but since you said that i'd be guaranteed the stafford loan...i'm feeling much better...

i wish i was just sitting here deciding between ucla and ucsf...i haven't heard back from ucsf yet...dunno what the heck's going on since it's been 2 months since i interviewed... =P

good luck to you!

Can you guys please tell me the website so that I can go fill it out online? thanks!

Wasabi007,

I just wanna make sure I didn't mislead you. You would be "gauranteed" the stafford depending on YOUR income last year. If you didn't make much, and fill it by march 15th, I don't think you should have problems at all. You do wanna get that thing in there latest by march 15th though!!

you would go to UCSF over LA? thats kewl!! I would love either one but doesn't seem like its gonna happen so I gotta fork up big money for a good private school!!

Take care and may the wasabi be with you!!

Wasabi,
Don't panic! When I went to UCSF interview, the financial aid officer told us that complete FAFSA when you are ready--after completing you and your parents income tax. As long as you complete FAFSA before the school starts you will get what you deserve. I hope to see you at UCSF next year!

I have probably been mislead,

My financial aid brochure specifically states that the application priority deadline in April 15th for both the FAFSA and the College Board Profile (CSS).

So, March 2nd, March 15th or April 15th?

Thanks.
