Have you guys started to fill out FAFSA already?

When do I need to do this by?

and can you update this as your application goes on? like with school codes and all.

The deadline varies by school. Here's a reference for you: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/deadlines.htm

They are generally between late February and early April.

Yes, you can make changes to your application (updated tax info, school list, etc). So I suggest filling it out now and then making changes as necessary.

i was actually wondering about this;
if i apply next year, do i also need to do the fafsa next year so schools can see the report, even though I'll still be at undergrad for the entirety of the period?
edit: and on a similar note, do i need to send it to all my prospective schools?

You'll be filling out the FAFSA for the NEXT (2012-2013) school year, so yes you will need to do it. You fill it out around Feb/March of the year you'll be entering, and should send it to any school you are accepted/waitlisted/waiting on a decision at. Your list of "prospective" schools will be significantly shorter by that time since interviewing will be wrapping up and you'll have a pretty good idea of where you might attend.
