1. If you don't know if you were emancipated or in legal guardianship (questions 53 and 54 on FAFSA), where can you find out? (I don't know because I cannot remember what terms I was released from foster care on prior to turning 18. I've looked all over the internet and called the court and no one seems to know the answer to this question. The court said they don't keep legal guardianship records.)
2. Back when I first applied for financial aid, they didn't ask most of these questions in Step Three of FAFSA about foster care and homelessness. As a result, I was miscategorized as dependent and took out over $100k in loans. Has anyone had a similar experience? If so, did you do anything about it after taking out loans (like explain the problem to financial aid after the fact), and what was the result?
