I never left the US until I left for RUSVM in August. Let's just say culture shock hit me hard but when I was offered admission to the school I couldn't turn it down. First semester was a complete trainwreck for me. I didn't anticipate my anxiety to be such a problem because I honestly wasn't at all prepared for island life. I struggled with different meds to try to get my life back in line and on top of some health issues, the beginning of the semester didn't go so hot. I bombed my first two anatomy exams because I totally panicked. Once I got on the right medication, my grades came up but I ended up three percent shy from passing. So I have to repeat the semester. I really don't think the island is for me. It's just too much for me to handle and the whole issue of dealing with health issues on the island made me quickly realize I need to look into transferring. My question is, if after repeating this course, if I do well, are there any schools that will even consider me as a transfer if I keep the rest of my grades up? Is it possible for me to just reapply through VMCAS to enter as a first year student? I honestly just can't handle the island- I want to be a vet more than anything in the world so if I have to tough it out, I will but it'd be ideal if I could return to the states for the sake of my sanity and health. Thanks in advance!

The best thing I can tell you is contact the schools you are interesting in transferring in and see what their policies are (some are on their websites even).

The problem is, what I heard is that transferring is rather competitive (GPA wise), so I'm not sure how it will look if you had to repeat a semester. To be honest, I would say that it wouldn't be impossible to transfer, but it might be a difficult road for you. Another to consider is cost/time. What if you spend 2-3 semesters at Ross and then the only option for you to transfer is to repeat first year at this transfer school if the curriculum doesn't match?

I'm not sure you can transfer (rather than just apply) after only 1 semester. I think most schools are looking for a full year. It's pretty competitive, but not impossible, but make sure you consider all the logistics (time, money, new everything, etc)
