Hey guys I am a fourth year us md student who is applying to IM residency this year. I am an okay applicant( never failed anything but never honored anything. BothUSMLE step 1 and 2 in the 230s)
I recently finished my icu rotation and I did fine in the actual rotation( the comments don’t show up anywhere to programs since it is a fourth year rotation). But I failed the icu exam at the end of the rotation. So my grade is a conditional on the transcipt and then once I pass the exam ( which I have to take in 3 weeks) then it will be c/p. I already had recommendations from my other rotations and it is all submitted.

however the issue is I already applied to IM programs and my current transcript ( which is currently uploaded) will not have the c grade for icu. However the new transcripts which my school will send next month will have the c on it.
How should I approach this situation as I will most likely get interviews before they get my new transcript and then I am afraid that they will not rank me and I will go unmatched. I know icu is an important rotation for IM and I really messed up and I should have studied better but do you think I will go unmatched.

Thanks everyone

If I remember correctly the school only ever uploaded one transcript to ERAS and that was it. It was never updated throughout the cycle and the only program to get my final transcript was the one I started at in July. So I think you're safe.

Thanks for the response. My school automatically sends updated transcript once in december ( where program directors can see C) and also in january. So they will definitly see that. My worry is that they might see it after they give me the interview and then decide not to rank me ( or rank me low). So even if I go on 15 interviews i might not match.

Huh. Why does your school send out another transcript? Just curious.

So once you pass the exam, you will have a c/p = "pass" correct?

I doubt this makes a difference if you already have interviews.

This will be very low on the list, and my guess is that many PDs won't even bother to download the updated app or notice it in the first place. When it comes to updates apps, they care that you passed boards and are on track to graduate.

In others words, don't worry about it, its unlikely anyone will notice and even if they do, its unlikely anyone will care.
