Hey...

So I'm in quite a depressed mood right now because I may fail my biology 300 class. I'm currently in 4th year. I know that I can take it again and do the grade-replacement, but nevertheless a F in a SCIENCE CLASS is very looked down upon. I'm wondering if this could dramatically impact my chances, given that my CGPA is about 3.4 and SGPA is about 3.2 right now.

Many thanks ~

What specific course was it and why did you fail it?

Retake and get an A. However, unless you get 32+, high tier DO schools are almost out of the picture with that sgpa.
Focus on mcat and target low - mid tier schools.

Lol.. OP said in the original thread that they know of grade replacement. SDNers reply by saying grade replacement. Redundant statements is redundant.

All-in-all, aim low to mid-tier, you should be fine. But if it's really gonna bother you, I'll jump on the pre-osteo bandwagon and say grade replacement.

I agree. That's why I added in "and get an A" and the low-mid tier part.
Anyone can retake a class, but not everyone can get an A (although in theory they should).

But I also have a feeling that I could just get a terribly low grade... Now is that worse than failing it, since I won't be able to retake it? Should I just ask the prof to fail me...?

Ok.. So to DO schools, is it worse to fail a biol class but do significantly better, or is it worse to pass a biol class but do terrible in it?

You can retake a class even if you don't fail
But I suppose if you get a C or B, you could just take another upper level course to make up for it, and Definately get an A in that one.

I mean, I'd rather take a D than an F, but a D is far from doing well.

I think if you have pretty good scores, and a nice upward trend, but you have a dimple in your transcript that it'll be okay. Or just do it as a summer class; you already took it, so it wouldn't make sense that you wouldn't do well the second time around. Just maintain a 3.0+ on both cGPA and sGPA.

Fix that grade because in the meantime you're not a good candidate.

An F this late in the game will raise eyebrows. You should be doing better in the upper class years, not worse.

Could not agree more with ^.

How did you go about the whole semester without asking for help or realizing this was coming?

So what are some mid-low tier DO schools that accept internationals?

I would retake it and also take a different upper level class and try to get A's in both.

Two words: Grade replacement!

Aren't DO schools awesome.

Maybe I should have been more specific. What's done is done. You just have to improve and not make the same mistake. Right now you are worrying about what you can't change, and not what you should be doing. Just retake the class and try to get A's in your new ones as well.

At my school, you CAN'T retake a class uncles you FAIL it. That's why I'm asking whether its "better" in my case that I fail it rather than do really badly...

Are you able to take the same or similar class with class descriptions as near matches at a different school? Junior or senior college?

Unfortunately not... What should I do? Should I ask the prof to fail me or should I go with a really low mark?

Depends how many classes you have under a C. Like I said, it's a dimple in your transcript. Won't kill you, but definitely won't help you.

aren't you on the verge of D and F? or C and D?
Just bomb the test if you can't get a C in the class.
If you can, just take the C and move on.

Do something like this if you are going to fail >>>
