Failed class and failed remediation

Good point! Considering that pre-clinical grades are at the bottom of the barrel of things that are considered important for residency placement, it's good to know that people can redeem themselves with Step 1. Still, I can understand how people feel horrible when they fail a class. We were mostly at the top of our class in college, and never really had problems academically. Then all of a sudden you just can't keep up, and must feel completely alone when others are passing.

Wow, the transition to medical school can sure be a slap in the face. 👎

question: (and not trying to imply anything), are you a current medical student or someone who was recently accepted to medical school? I can't keep up with everyone.

But anyways, back on point, yes, I think an otherwise solid application can overcome failing a pre-clinic course. You will likely have to be somewhat stronger of an applicant than you would have had to be otherwise, but this is nowhere near as devastating as failing something like orgo in UG. From what I have heard many schools just won't look at you if you struggled in the core pre-med courses and if they do you have to be outstanding in other things.

I'm a current MS-1. I can understand failing an undergraduate course being worse, but like you said, I'm guessing a lot of those people would have dropped the premed track a while ago and not have gotten into medical school in the first place.

many do. But there are still a good many pre-meds who stay the course all the way up to graduation and then either just fail to matriculate or take a closer look at what is expected and then drop it. I knew several in UG like this.

I'm a fourth year and I repeated all of second year due to making a few C's. It has definitely come up in interviews but after I explain what happened they say something along the lines of "Okay, you did really well third year and on boards. Looks like you got your stuff together". I know my situation is more severe than failing one course, and your experience will likely vary, but I think it hurt the amount of interviews I received (in EM). We'll see how the match goes in a couple months...
If you don't mind my asking, how did match turn out for you? I'm a first year student at a med school on the west coast and I have to remediate anatomy and more than likely neuroanatomy. I know I shouldn't be worrying about residency but i want to enter med/peds.

gross anatomy! that had to be the one. Someone above said that's the hardest easy class you ever have to take. My thoughts exactly. Good luck OP!
