I have failed the Comlex and got a 475 on my second attempt. I took a year off for family tragedy. I am currently a third year student, and am interested in applying to psych residencies. I noticed a lot of the DO residencies are pretty new, and with the new single accreditation some of these might close. Do I have a shot at MD residencies with my failed Comlex and year off? Does anyone know how the NSUCOM/ROWANWesternU psych programs are in the AOA? What would be the best thing to do? Should I bother doing auditions?

Yes, do auditions, do a fantastic job, make sure you alert the PD that you are interested in the program and ask to meet with them during your audition. In psychiatry, the person is more important than the scores, at least at most programs. No guarantees, but this will go a long way to get you noticed and in the rank list.

what if I am not a good auditioner? usually the quiet one compared to most students. will any program consider me then md or do?

being quiet is a positive in a medical student or resident. it's the ones who mouth off, think they know more than the residents or attendings, or don't know when to keep quiet that are the problem. as long as you know how to talk to patients, show a genuine interest in psychiatry, are enthusiastic, inquisitive, eager to help out and learn, go above and beyond in terms of clinical care and do what you're told you will do well.

I am too quiet when asked a question..I dont think I ever answer any question without I dnt know..its like social phobia I deal with

psychiatry tends to attract introverted and anxious sorts. if you think that your level of anxiety is actually interfering with your performance then this is the perfect opportunity to do something about it. if you don't, well then that is your own undoing and you will make things more difficult for you. these red flags are not insurmountable barriers to an allopathic residency - there are enough of them and not enough US applicants, but if you also have a crappy performance in clerkships then you will quite rightly find yourself a bit stuck.
