I studied from the apha book and rxprep. Honestly, I wasn't surprised of the result because the questions were tough. A lot of the answer choices sounded very similar! I guess I did not know how the drugs within a class are different from each other. It is like taking an exam in a foreign language and I wasn't taught all of this stuffs in p-school. I studied my butt off though and I don't know if studying more would have made a difference.

I am starting all over again. What are you guys using to study?

Did you go to pharmacy school in Cali?

I'm using RxPrep, Apha, the ProntoPass Math cards, Weissman's, Siglars top 300 drug cards and my notes. I take the NAPLEX and CPJE at the end of the month and I pray to God I pass. =/ Sorry to hear that you didn't pass, I know it is a really tough exam. Have you taken the NAPLEX as well? G'luck studying.

I have taken the NAPLEX and passed easily. I went to a school outside of California. After the exam, I went over the apha and rxprep book to see if it was covered and it was not even mentioned! I am sure even if I had spent another month studying, I would still have failed.

i dont mean to sound arrogant but the CPJE, atests common sense and the ability of making the best clinical decision, situations where there si more than one answer might than one answer. I dont think going to school out of state is an excuse for not passing the exam. I went to school in new mexico, graduated 2009 and passed along with 3 other classmates.

Well that post was helpful..

OP - I know after faling the NAPLEX or MPJE three times, you are required to request an analysis of your most recent test which you would, in turn, provide to the Exam Retake Committee. I'm not sure if they offer something like this after the first time. If they do, that might help facilitate your studying and give you a clue as to where areas of weakness might be. Good luck!

don't get me wrong. I am, in no way, implying attending a school outside of ca caused me to fail. I was simply replying to a question.

IMO, the CPJE was a basic competency exam, and was far easier than the NAPLEX.

CNB: I mean this as respectfully as possible, have you actually WORKED in a pharmacy? I think that helps a lot, because many of the fill/do not fill questions are reflective of every day decisions you would've made as an intern. I know that CA laws are different, but my version of CPJE only had a few law questions, and even those were pretty obvious.

For your re-take, perhaps you can look into reading A Guide To California Community Pharmacy Law by Fred G. Weissman. It's a pretty easy read, and sums up the LAW portion of the CPJE nicely.

If you feel you struggled on the clinical portion, then it might be best to revisit your therapeutics notes to deepen your understanding of basic concepts.

Good luck!!!!!

it may be for you but it wasn't for me and for many others. the fail rate is much higher on the cpje vs. naplex; you can check it out yourself on the ca board of pharmacy's website. both exams' pass rate are posted there.

I'm fully aware of the statistics and where to find them, thank you. But my CPJE itself didn't ask ridiculously intense therapeutic questions involving complex cases. In that aspect alone, the CPJE is easier. Since there are only a total of 90 questions, you can't get as many wrong as you did on NAPLEX in order to pass. But that's just stating the obvious. I digress...

I didn't use the APhA book because I was told by my preceptors that it was full of errors. I used Shargel, which I thought was sufficient as preparation.

I'm sure you've already done this, but if you evaluated which questions you had struggled with the first time, that should help you prepare for the re-take. Good luck studying again!!! I'm sure you'll rock the test after having had a feel for it! 🙂

CPJE had some questions that were common sense but most of them were not based on common sense. You do have to know combo drug names, ADRs, DDI...etc. Most of the questions were more specific and not as random as NAPLEX.

Hello guys I am in same boat too.. I failed for 1 mark, taking CPJE again in December. I studied APHA, Prontopass & Weissman. My compitancy was low in Monitoring & Patient outcomes. I work at very busy Pharmacy, where I hardly get chace to see anything in details. I think I failed because of fill/do not fill questions. This time I am concetrating on Dose, strenghth, frequency etc. It's so painful to fail. I think CPJE is an exam where you have to be specific, so I will concetrate on top 200 drugs try to be perfact on those.
