So I took Step 1 last summer and failed, and I am re-sitting it this summer. MY score was close to passing, so I am not completely hopeless (although I feel like I am sometimes). Anyway, my question involves how I should plan when exactly to take these 2 exams- steps one and 2, as I am applying for residencies this sumemr hopefully (if i can even do that without having a passing grade at the time). Can I fit them in both this summer and still be able to apply for residencies in time? I feel clueless.

Please help!
Thanks!

Wow. Your school let you do MS3 without passing Step 1? Why did you wait so long to re-take it? If I were you I'd take Step 1 ASAP so that you can get your score back & then take Step 2 later in summer.

I failed this past summer and am retaking it this summer. do i need to have passed step one to take step 2?

no, you can take them in any order. but you can forget about matching into a residency if you don't pass this time.

why did you wait so long to retake?? most schools won't let you do 3rd year without passing!

Take two rotations off and study - consider the Kansas City "boot camp" if you have to. You have two months fourth year to make things up, or graduate a year later. A year isn't much big picture

You need to take two blocks off and make them up 4th year because you do not want to fail again. Having just failed something myself I know that puts matching for residency at risk 😳( I suggest you take two blocks off and study for step 1 with all your might. I am surprised your school did not stop you sooner but I guess different schools are different. Now for Step 2 CK I studied 3 weeks for it. I suggest you see if you can take a reading elective or some easy BS rotation during this time so that you have about a month to study for it and it won't take away from your interview time in 4th year. There are electives where students are not required to come in much or at all. Look into that or perhaps some "Lab" elective so that you can study for step 2 as well. It is going to be hard studying so much but Step 2 CK is easier than Step 1 in my opinion anyhow. Hope this helps.

I have 2 and a hlaf months off this summer to retake. My school doesn't require passing it because I am in an international school. If I retake and pass by mid august, will that be in enough time to apply for residencies?

Thanks.
