  1. Hi everyone, so, put this in the wrong forum I realized it should go here.
So, I graduated from undergrad with a a very not science background, and leapt into a premed postbacc. Summer semester, got A minuses in Gen Chem I and II. Fall got an A in physics I, and B plus in Bio I and Orgo I. Spring semester was not easy for a number of reasons both academic and not. Failed Orgo II and Biochem, might fail Bio II but I am waiting on results. C plus in physics II. Obviously, I am aware that this is a very bad thing. Is it quixotic at this point to retake these classes somewhere else and try again, or is retaking them worth doing? Or, does it make more sense to just take another premed postbacc, maybe one that goes at a slower pace, and just pretend that this year never happened?

aacomas has grade forgiveness so you can take classes and use that to replace bad grades. hang in there! you are 23? that is young! i am older than you and i am still trying. i wish i am 23 lol

Thanks for your advice. I did not know about grade replacement.

I think the most important question for you to consider is WHY it is you're failing and more importantly, what is it that you can do to fix it. I recently failed a class in a post-bac program as well. For me, it was because I fell behind by not devoting enough study time to each class that I was taking. In other words, it was a time management issue. Have you taken the MCAT yet? What was your undergrad gpa?

Thank you futdoc. Undergrad GPA was a 3.66 from a well ranked, most dont get in, but not astounding school. No MCAT yet. I think I have identified the problems in my case, and that is sound advice, and I thank you very much for your encouragement.

Were you taking the post bac to meet requirements?

your only real hope is to retake and get As....then get a good mcat. But you need to go slow enough to get As

Thanks for your advice. I did not know about grade replacement.

FYI, grade replacement only applies to DO schools.
Time management is a critical skill to pick up before medical school starts. Once things get moving they never let up, if you get far behind, there's no coming back. And they really start picking up some speed on about day 2, maybe 3. 😉

yea bro ill second the reason why you failed as being more important than anything. med schools will ask. a lotta secondaries ask the question ive seen and if not then they usually always that have that section that says describe any extenuating circumnstances. just be real with yourself and be sure to make it up somehow either by retaking and killing or adding an experience that would add something to the pot. either way, not the end of the word, just gotta put in the work!

Thank you. If I do decide that this is not the end of the road for me, and I eventually do retake these courses and get As, and I rely on AACOMAS grade replacement policy, am I correct in assuming that AACOMAS will still represent the failures, but will simply exclude them in grade calculation?

The schools can still see your transcripts. The classes you retook will be inputted into your GPA, but they can still see that you retook a class.

Dude just every time you step in a class from this moment onward, completely murder it. They love upward trends and nontrads.
