Failed PE.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
as long as you've uploaded your comlex transcript to ERAS before your score was transmitted, the programs will not know unless you tell them (ie- they can't update your transcript-you have to). So unless they ask specifically, I wouldn't bring it up.

I just got my Comlex PE score back – Failed. I have fairly decent Comlex CK scores (605 for step 1 and 577 for step 2). I rescheduled my PE for April 1 of 2008 (the earliest date they have available). But the fact remains that I am facing my interviews (IM) with a failed PE score. Does anyone know what sort of implications I should expect in my situation?

I've heard of many many students failing the PE exam on their first try (all of them had very good Level 1 and CK scores). None were worried about being negatively affected when it came to interviews.

Many perfectly fine students bomb the USMLE Step 2 CS exam as well. Same boat.

Just found out I failed Comlex PE. Did everything I was told including hand washing, draping patient, did OMT on 3 patients reassessed did OMT exam on all patients , everything I was taught and I have read about. Did everything as I was taught when writing H&P. Now 200k and 9 years of my life are in jeopardy. This is a nightmare. Does anyone else see how crazy this situation is? The only tests available are in April when it would be too late to graduate anyway. Any advice of how I can study for this subjective test in April? I think there needs to be some serious improvement on feedback on a test this subjective. Guess I was one of the unlucky 4%. The scary thing is that I would not do one thing different if I did the test again today. For those of you who still haven't taken/passed PE good luck because it makes no sense to me. Please give any/all advice to help me pass next time. Thanks.

Jesus, you're freaking me out now. I havn't gotten my scores back yet, but I have this nagging, nagging feeling that I'm going to have failed. I only did OMT on 3 patients, but I didn't even do a structural exam on the ones who didn't ASK blatantly and ridiculously for OMT. Ugh. God I hate OMT.

And the worst thing is that these clowns at the NBOME tell us to "treat them exactly as you would in a real encounter"....Well, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to go screwing around assessing some dude's C-spine or sacral motion if I think he has a critical illness.

This test is absolutely disgraceful. At this point, after four years of dealing with nonsense, I am so ashamed of the COMLEX and the NBOME in general.

Here is what 1050 $ gets ya. Let me know if you guys think this is enough information to study for the retaking this test?

I'm also freaking out wondering if I passed this stupid exam! I totally agree with whats been said. It is a shamefully pointless exam and an absolute waste of time and money. I seriously am going to throw up the day my scores are released if I fail this thing.

same here. i took it last week and based on that i wont get my score until jan30-feb20, grrrr.

trying to put this thing out of my mind but its hard when i know i made so many little mistakes over the course of the day with the time pressure. from forgetting to re-tie some of the pt gowns, to checking the tongue and asking when the last drink was in an alcoholic seizure pt, to forgetting to order sputum cultures in a productive cough and listing depression and bulimia in the ddx of a teen with sleep disturbance + running every day + new wt loss + relationship probs, etc...

its so weird, walking out i thought i did great and that most of my ddx and work ups sounded good and then all that crap just hit me when i got back to the hotel. 😱 like you, i will totally throw up if i failed this thing, not just for the cost but the nightmare it would be with the match and having to retake it in june and not getting the score back in time.

ok... enough, breathe in, breathe out. just wish i knew i passed already, i hate this thing. it can only serve to trip us up and make $$$ for the AAMC.

10. Philly cheesesteak is good but not worth 1045 dollars
9. No way to know why you failed
8. No way to know what you do to pass
7. No one knows what Humanistic is
6. 1045 $ pays for what?
5. Test only offered after I should graduate
4. Have to talk to people at NBOME about retesting
3. 300$ a night in Conshohocken Marriott is not a good deal
2. This test was invented 3 years ago
1. Actors deciding if I will be a doctor

10. Eat another cheese steak .. yeah they weren't that good but i'll be there
9. Rent another ford b/c i love their cars
8. Stay at the lovely 300 dollar a night marriott
7. Enjoy the smell of PHILLY
6. Enjoy the free lunch compliments of the NBOME ($1050 dollars i paid for it)
5. Find a parking spot for PE
4. Meet the friendly actors who have my life in their hands
3. BE HUMANISTIC
2. Not get a parking ticket and never have ticket put on window and get summons from court in Conshohocken
1. Leave Philly

10. Some of the standardized patients suffer a real emergency as we're going through the ropes, but since we as test takers cannot deviate from their schedule or template, and must play the role, we know no different and they die.

9. The foundation of the testing center building erodes and the entire thing slips and falls into the Schuyllkyll River.

8. A runaway SEPTA train derails and takes out the Conshohocken Marriott.

7. The NBOME is audited by the IRS and finds that their practices are considered racketeering and are charged under the RICO statutes.

6. It's found to be true later that the funds they procured from the COMLEX PE were then being used for soliciting hookers by the administrators. (Pulling a few Spitzer specials)

5. All cameras and power throughout that building are knocked out allowing the testers to kick the living $hit out of the proctors and standardized patients.

4. Snow caves in the roof of the NBOME testing site as the evaluators are critiquing our tests.

3. A proctor chokes, or gets food poisoning on one of those God awful sandwiches they call a lunch.

2. Every time you exit the room to do your soap note, let rip a nasty putrid fart before you exit and let the standardized patients wallow in the fumes.

1. The NBME realizes this clinical skills thing was an idiotic idea and cans the USMLE 2 CS. NBOME of course will follow suit a couple months later.

Did I mention how much I hate this test?

As for #7, we have been looking into this, and what may come of this would dumbfound you. The NBOME is a drop in the bucket (although, I thought not for profits were required to disclose financial statements... thats write, they are,,,more coming soon even though they refused) compared to the Endorsement of these testing procedures by a former VP of NBOME who recently went to a Dean's position. It appears that he also has relations in Congress and co-authors of the original study to implement this test on the board of the one of the fastest growing Simulation testing facility and programming (software) in the field, who has also influence legislation to be pass to require such testing, and would also implement that the schools use such testing software, simulations, and products to past such an NBOME test. TALK ABOUT WRITING YOUR OWN CHECK..... also, as for graduation requirements, you need to check to see when the rule was put into place for your school, and when you paid your acceptance money. They can't change color of the car after you put your deposit down....:meanie:

ps sorry about the run on sentences, just too much for a short reply...
