Hello all,

Due to personal circumstances, I wasn't completely "with it" mentally when taking the peds shelf and was informed by my school that I would have to retake the exam. Can anyone recommend what they used for the shelf so I won't have to repeat the whole rotation?

Thanks

Blueprints was more than enough for my pediatrics shelf exam. If you want to be hardcore, use Nelson's Essentials of Pediatrics. It's a bit longer than Blueprints but most of the shelf questions come directly from this book.

How much time do you have and do you just want to pass at this point or do well? (If your school is like most, doing well at this point won't help your grade anymore than just passing on second attempt). If you just want to pass, pretest, and whatever other question sources you can get your hands on (QBook, UWorld), and maybe the 200 pages or so of Kaplan step 2 peds (you can find a pdf online for free pretty easily.)

blueprints pre-test

thanks for the suggestions - my goal is just to pass so I'm wondering whether I should just stick to a question source (pre-test, uworld, kaplan Qbook, etc) or go to a text.

The Kaplan lecture notes are probably the highest yield (not the 2009 version, I think they added unnecessary detail and made it like 300 pages. Find an earlier version.) That plus questions should be more than enough.

USMLEWORLD plus case files peds= 89% on shelf.

WORD. I did this as well and got a similar score on it. Case files was a tremendous help on this shelf for me, as it was quite high yield. USMLEWORLD was just added practice on questions, which doesn't hurt.

most people at my school, including myself use the appleton and lange question review book. The questions are very similar and that was the only thing i used and rocked it

i just took the peds shelf two days ago. i will swear by pretest, brs, blueprints. felt pretty good after the exam--thought it was less difficult and less random than medicine/surgery--but i guess i'll find out for sure in about 7-10 days when scores become available.

Dude, I feel ya. I nearly failed this exam. It was my hardest shelf of them all. I scored about 3 points higher than what I needed to pass.
I used Blueprints + PreTest + Casefiles + Boards and Wards.
However, I don't think those books are any good, since a lot of Qs drew from other rotations.
If I did fail, I would go back and add on USMLE World.
Good luck!
