i'm sorry to hear about the step 2 experience. =(
i think you would need to retake it asap. the next goal now is to have your scores in asap. then you can explain yourself on interviews and the new score will be factored in when you get ranked.
i know this isn't what you want to hear, but failing step 2 will adversely affect your app. i don't know how you did on step 1, but step 2 has been proven and shown to be a much predictor of success in residency. however, not all students take step 2 before applying, and though, step 1 is the only standardized national exam that can compare all applicants. since you took step 2 already, residencies will look at your step 2. step 1 usually is used as the cutoff for interviews, and so therefore, you will most likely get your interviews. and then the step 2 question will probably pop up at interviews. but to get rid of any doubt in anyone's mind, you shold schedule your next step 2 test date and let everyone know that you will take it agian.
