I am an AMG but failed step 2-CS and wont get my regrade until sometime in summer after the start transitional internship/prelim. Question is can we still start transitional internship/prelim without a "pass" on the step 2-CS? thanx.

i think it depends on the program, some on FREIDA show that you have to have a pass on CS before starting residency and others either dont say anything or say no.

the usmle has a way to sign up for email alerts whenever a testing date or center opens up though. you might want to try that so that you can hopefully get a test date where the results will be back before June/July so that you can start residency without any problems.

thank for the reply.
anyone know of anyone being dropped from a residency because of failed step ii cs? or is it cool with the programs to give you a vacation month at the begining and delay the start date further if needed? any experiences/advice really appreciated.

If the program wants you and know that you have retaken they are likely to let you start as long as you have graduated from medical school. (Some medical schools (mine) won't let you graduate without passing Step II.

If you know that you have failed, as someone above suggested, do your retake as soon as you can. If you slid into a cancellation slot, you might have your passing score back before your program starts. If not, your PD might be fine with you just having retaken; will start you. Just be sure that you have not matched into a program that requires Step II prior to start. If that is the case, then you have to work out a vacation month or something with the PD.
