Hello,
Im a 4th year osteopathic medical student....just got the bad news I didnt pass COMLEX step 2....i passed comlex 1 on the first attempt with flying colors....just had some horrible luck obviously this time, i was shocked when i saw my score and i didnt pass. I am applying to IM residencies, all alopathic. I have received 11 interview invitations, but all of this was done before my step2 comlex score was received....what are my chances of matching now, assuming I do retake and pass it? THe residency programs who have offered me an interview do not know about my step 2 score because I did not transmit it to them...I guess when I interview, i have to tell them there...Do I have any chance of getting into an IM residency through the match? Should I even bother to go to these interviews? please give me some advice, thanks!

would it be possible to just take the USMLE CK, since you are applying to all allo programs, and not even mention the comlex failure?

Right now I do not have plans to take the USMLE 2, but will consider it. There are a lot of allo IM programs that take the Comlex, so I didnt bother to take the USMLE. The problem is I have already indicated on my application that I took the COMLEX level 2 this fall, so basically they know I took it but dont have my score because I didnt retransmit my score report. I plan on retaking this exam in Jan. Do you know if IM residencies will rank applicants without the step 2 score , because I dont think my COMLEX 2 retake score will be in by the time they rank. Also another question
Should I even bother to go to these interviews? Im afraid if I tell the programs ahead of time I didnt pass comlex 2, they will cancel my interview.
PLEASE ADVISE

There's no need for you to offer any information to programs. If directly asked about your score or whether you've gotten it back yet, you should answer truthfully, otherwise, "Don't ask, don't tell" is the way to go. You should definitely not cancel the interviews. You're planning to re-take the exam...presumably you'll pass it then and all will be well.

If you haven't already, perhaps you should add on a few less competitive programs but if you've already gotten a bunch of interviews this may not be necessary.

As for the USMLE, if you didn't take Step 1, you can't take Step 2 so there's really no point there unless you want to take both of them in the next 2 months.

Good luck.

Actually, there is no requirement to take USMLE Step 1 before Step 2. I know a few DOs who took Step 2 only.

FYI this might vary from school to school. But i asked my school if we need step 2 CK for match and they said that is not required. As long as you have a decent step 1 score you should be ok.

Your school may not require Step 2 CK or CS, but the STATE medical boards usually do (allopathic)...so make sure you check with the state board that you are going to to ensure you qualify. Good luck
