Hey ya'll, just wondering if I could get some feedback about what to do if you have a failed class on your transcript.

I'm already done with undergrad, but when I was there I took a 2 part/2 quarter advanced stats for psych course. I passed part 1 but didn't pass part 2. Once I realized it was impossible for me to pass, I switched to Pass/No Pass so luckily it's not an F on my GPA. However, I know it still doesn't look good. The reality of the situation is that I just screwed up because of my own immaturity at the time...I didn't realize how hard I was going to have to work at it until it was too late.

In applying to clinical phd programs, I know this will be a strike against me. So my question is, what should I do about it? Since it is an advanced course, I can't take it at a community college. My undergrad school was a UC, but would it make sense for me to try and take a similiar course at my local CSU in order to show that I can do the work? Is this a worthwhile venture or should I just leave it be?

Thanks for your input.

I have no clue how admissions committees work in clinical psych but have seen them in action in other pretty competitive grad programs. They did not really scrutinize the transcript that closely from what I observed.

In my opinion, which has no basis in fact nor experience so take it with a grain of salt, consider your overall strength as a candidate. If you have stellar GRE, a high GPA and fit your programs in other ways really well.... I would suspect this would not be much of a factor.

I have multiple F's on my transcript from my first year or two of university, and it certainly wasn't because I couldn't handle the material. 🙄 I still managed to receive interviews.

You live and you hopefully learned. There should be other parts of your application to overshadow one measly F or No Pass on your transcript.

G'luck. :luck:
