Hey guys Im back a year later to post that I passed my boards.

I wanted to create a post for those that did not cross the hurdle this year. Last year I was in your exact same position, I was pissed, angry and and in disbelief. I was one who was suppose to pass with ease! I was a chief resident, hard worker and dedicated to my profession. Needless to say my failure was both embarrassing and a let down to all who were counting on me. I was absolutely ashamed to interact with collegues for several months afterward.

But thanks to my best friend, supportive family and some members in the SDN community I regained the strength to move forward. I actually ended up using some of the same exact resources but commited myself to a "leave no stone unturned" attitude. I took no course, but studied hard everyday. I used Big Blue and Faust. Did over 3000 questions. But I think most importantly I lost my cocky attitude, gained humility and set my mind for success! And it worked!

So if you failed, do not dwell on it too long. Reasses why you failed and then keep swinging!

Congratulations, that is awesome!!!

Was in the same position last year as well. I also cut off contact with friends and colleaugues-- even those who had been so instrumental in my career. Just because of our nature, you are going to feel alone and isolated. You will get through. I used the same resources and even had to study while working this year whereas last year I had a solid month of doing nothing before the exam. The good news this year has been a tremendous load off my chest. Nothing worth it is easy and things happen for a reason. I know it sounds cliche but I quit smoking as part of my "rededication". That alone might have been worth it.

It is just a test... It says nothing about you as a consultant anesthesilogist and how good you are as a physician. What you do in the hospital is FAR more valuable than a PASS/FAIL on a piece of paper.

congrats....the amount of personal growth that you obtained through this ordeal was immeasurable...

After never failing anything, I failed writtens last year. Miserable. Studied my butt off this summer and it just paid off.
It feels horrible to fail. Embarrassing. Couldn't admit it to anyone at work. Cut off all contact with my residency director, whom I am sure was miffed.
Well, my wife kept telling me to keep my chin up and that I would pass this year. And she was right. It still sucked. Feel better now.
But I have this lurking feeling, what if I fail orals? Crap. Better start hitting the books now. And pick out a board prep course.
Good luck to all. If you didn't pass this year, I'm sorry. I know how awful it is. But keep your chin up. Good luck.
