Fake Kaplan Books

So I bought some 'used - like new' 2008 Kaplan USMLE books off a seller on amazon but I'm worried that they are not legit.

1. The seller has sold over 60 of these
2. The binding is pretty shoddy. Instead of staying flat when opened, it creases down the middle
3. The chapter numbers are not a solid uniform black, but rather look scanned and grayish.
4. A few sections of the book look like they were printed with low ink. This lasts for a few pages, then goes away.

Does anyone have an official copy from Kaplan that they can compare to this?

There are definitely bootleg Kaplan books being sold over the internet. If it looks fake its probably fake. I've seen some fakes that look almost identical to the real Kaplan books. The only way I figured out they were fakes was by comparing them to my roommates legit ones. That said, if you already think its a knock off without even looking at real ones..its probably a knock off.

It is ilegal to have kaplan series books , without taking the course. For original material sold that it is not part of the course, or extra, be sure to buy from trusted bookstore / sellers, such bn.com, borders.com, buy.com, amazon.com directly - not vendors. Or better yet directly from www.kaplanmedical.com .

There are PDF versions of the Kaplan books that exist - sounds like someone printed out a copy for you and tried to pass it off as the real thing. But I'm pretty sure the bootleg versions are exactly like the real version, so it won't hurt you to keep them, unless you paid a bunch of $$ for them and want it back. Also, you might want to leave seller feedback or report them to Amazon so that other buyers won't end up doing the same thing.
