This is why I am having a hard time trusting the news nowadays.

L.A. County homelessness jumps a 'staggering' 23% as need far outpaces housing, new count shows

This article starts with this huge headline:

It goes into details about the housing crisis (most of the article):

Then the last sentence of the article reads:

12% of homeless people have been in LA for less than a year = they are transplants from other cities and states. Anyone who can do 8th grade math would then realize the majority of this 23% jump in homelessness is due to transplants.

BMB fake outrage is all the thing in the media today. The liberal progressive media has been on a roll the last few years keeping their agenda alive. They are very selective in what they print. Check out all the non-sports related stories on ESPN. Certainly one of the many reasons their ratings are in the can and they are laying off people in droves.

If the distribution of time in the area is similar this year compared to past years, it's unlikely to be due to simple influx. We know nothing about the efflux of homeless individuals from these stats. I'm not saying your conclusion is necessarily wrong, it's just not the only possible explanation.

That's right. Infowars and Breitbart are the fair and balanced news. /s

Correct, only the media that I personally disagree with is fake. Everything else that confirms my world views is 100% factual and not at all exaggerated.

Seriously, all news orgs "lie". Click bait = money and everything runs on money.

If you had to be homeless, Venice Beach is probably a nicer place to do it than, say, Fargo. So sure, maybe it's a magnet for that crowd.

But homelessness vs. high rents? I don't think that many of the homeless would be buying or renting even if the rents were below $1k per month. Maybe I am naive here, but I don't believe most homeless are gainfully employed full time earners, and their rent is just a bit out of budget.

Huffington Post...Vox...InfroWars...Breitbart...Drudge Report...all insanely biased.

But institutions like the New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Chicago Tribune, and Reuters (among others) are very reputable and lumping them into the same conversation as the biased sources above is nonsense.

Very true, there are degrees to the level of bias from different sources. On the same token I have read/watched/listened to some absolute garbage from some historically unbiased sources. So, always keep your critical thinking cap on.

So you're comparing CNN, CBS, ABS, NBC to Breitbart news and Infowars? It's a bit hard for you to play mister middleground on this one. Virtually all of the newspapers save a few are liberal progressive. I think even you can admit that.

It really depends. On a world scale they are rather centrist. The US has a far right conservative party with heavy influence. If you just look at the US in a bubble, sure, you can call them "liberal." But my point is more towards degree of sensationalism. CNN is pretty sensational. As are those I listed before. Not all right news are crazy. Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg are examples of a non sensationalist news source on the right.

The previous years on that chart were also influenced by recent transplants.

Exactly. There is a big push for housing for the homeless but this would incentivize more homeless transplants from other cities and states to move to sunny LA.

The problem with subsidize housing is that it doesn't necessary benefit LA residents. People in other cities and states can also apply...many of them don't even work in LA. As a result, there is going to be more traffic congestion and rents will go up for those who do not qualify for the subsidies.

The fact is..LA is becoming an international city, like NY and SF, and a lot of people are being squeezed out. I don't think there is a really good way to stop this trend.
