falcon or pass program?

has anyone taken any of those two programs?

goljan is teaching falcon, so that made the program a little more attractive.

i don't know which one i should take.

I believe that the programs are different so the question is what do you need to improve on? If you know what your specific strengths and weaknesses are you can decide which is a better fit. From what I have gathered is if you are good at taking exams and disciplined in your studying you can do it on your own.

I'm taking the Falcon Online course right now, it's decent; it's not the same as the hotel version (obviously) but the books are the same, and you just have to watch the videos online. for the most part the lecturers in the video just read off the slides (especially Anatomy), but the other lecturers do a good job of explaining things. i assume it would be similar live but i can't say for sure. i had a friend who took the live falcon though and said that the accomodations were pretty shoddy, but that the course was good if you stick to it.

obviously i have no input on the pass program, sorry.

Took the Pass program and passed the step1 so it worked for me. I give a shout out to Dr F. He is da man.

Took the PASS program and I passed. But not sure if I can attribute that to the program. Sure the program is good and all, but if you are disciplined and structured enough to study for the step you really don't need any program.

how do you like their tutors?

I wonder how come no one on here has taken the falcon program?

I'm currently using the Pass Program Notes passed down to me from a friend. It looks to be pretty good especially with biochem (all I've looked at so far), which while I'm not exactly weak in, it certainly has helped tie some loose ends in. However, have I memorized it all yet? No -- but I have a year so I'm trying to get the concepts down.

I will say that there is some minutiae that may not be tested regarding which restriction peptidases cut where and to the right or left of which amino acids, etc. but I'm going to compliment it with Kaplan or RR biochem to make sure on that. Besides that, it seems to be real good.

so i've been reading the posts.. really, NOBODY here has taken a Falcon course recently? I wonder how things are with Goljan there now.

I'm choosing between Falcon and Kaplan LivePrep..

any suggestions at all??

My buddy took the Falcon and liked it. He rocked the step1 too. This is what I believe in two courses.

Strong basic science background=Pass program

Weak basic science background=Falcon

I don't think a student with a weak basic science background would get the most out of the pass program because he moves quick and randomly through different subjects, they expect you to know these basics

Whereas Falcon is much like Kaplan where you start from day1 Anatomy and work your way through all of the basics one at a time

My school required us to take the Kaplan video course. I have all 2008 books with the bootleg videos. I would compare Kaplan to Falcon. The Pass Program is totally different. He teaches more with a series of clues to answering the questions than rote memory. I know I got at least 10-15 questions correct because of the Pass Program. It works for the most part. I do know of students taking the Pass Program and failing but these students had extremely poor basic science knowledge to begin with. The Pass Program won't teach you 2 years of basic science in one month, its just not possible. You have to also weight out if you really need a review course because its about 4-5K. Why spend that kind of money when you can do well on your own.
