Yes, I havent heard from any place except the ones where I applied on priority. Columbia did send me app tracker information today though..but other than that nothing except notifications on receiving applications. Waiting totally sucks.

Again, anyone heard from Michigan?

I have been accepted at Tulane and Michigan. Michigan posted their decision on their Wolverine Access site which I have been checking about four times a day for the past month.

Accepted to Michigan epi.

So far, accepted to: Drexel, Pitt, Michigan, Emory

95% sure I'll go to Emory, though I'm not officially deciding till I hear from Columbia.

Has anyone heard from either UCLA or Berkeley yet?? Seems like they're also really late in sending out admissions.

Accepted: University of Minnesota Epidemiology
University of Michigan Epidemiology

Waiting for reply:

Boston University Epidemiology
Europubhealth (EU program in quantitative health assessment)

when yall heard from emory- does an option just show up on opus to view your decision letter?

i first got an email that said a fedex package was being shipped to me from Emory, and then i checked my letter by clicking on Home, Admissions, and View your decision letter

i heard via voicemail message followed by an email indicating my package is in the mail, finally a very nice package in in the mail.

I'm still waiting to hear from Berkeley. It is killing me. I saw that one guy on hear got accepted already. Otherwise, I think they are still deciding. Does anyone know if they will contact you whether you are accepted or not, or only with an acceptance?

Has anyone heard back from University of Washington - Global Health yet?

I dunno, the email I got from Berkeley early January said that I should expect to hear from them by mid-April, so I wouldn't get worried just yet...it seems like they might take a while to start releasing decisions

are you implying something? I sent my application in early dude. I also live next door to the dean of student affairs. i had a few connections help me out.

No implications about your application efforts whatsoever, I don't think that you had even posted on this thread, so I can't see where you could possibly have construed an offensive remark, although some of your other comments on this site have also been brusque. Moreover, I was commenting on the fact that several of us are anxiously waiting on Berkeley to release results. Personally, I was told that the Admissions Office would begin to release decisions by email in mid-April. Congratulations on submitting early, and good luck with your connections and admission. Maybe next time you could limit your conversation to things that are constructive for the entire community. PM me if there is a problem.

when were y'all Michigan acceptees complete?😀

Can I ask what your stats are if you don't mind? I applied to UMich Epi as well.....

Accepted to Michigan epi.

So far, accepted to: Drexel, Pitt, Michigan, Emory

95% sure I'll go to Emory, though I'm not officially deciding till I hear from Columbia.

Congrats.....What are your stats like? I'm anxious to hear from UMIch

I had pretty good stats: GPA>3.6 and GRE>1400, with a particularly high quantitative score. However, I have almost no work experience and was a history major, rather than math/science.

All my acceptances were for epi depts.

I just got an email that my decision was ready on the app site. But when I went there there was no link!! Anyone else???

seeing as how the scores go up to 800 only, u must have had particularly high scores in verbal also, not just quant!

got an email from berkeley today saying that they have recommended me for admission- and a final letter from the graduate school should come soon. i applied to their MPH program in infectious diseases.

also recieved acceptances from U Mich hospital and molecular epi and Yale epi of microbial diseases this week. its been a good one.

I got my first acceptance today - Yale Health Management! Came in the mail with no warning 🙂 Woohoo!

Hey there,

Just introducing myself and adding a datapoint as an "alternative student". Going back to school after almost 20 years - (I'm in my early 40s) applying only to BU MPH - (have to go part-time - but my company is paying!)

Just finished SOPHAS app on the 30th - GPAs were verified this Monday. I checked, and realized that I had misclassified a Statistics course. Sent email and they fixed it same day. (which gave my Math GPA a considerable bump).

Today I saw that my GREs still weren't on the official "Status" side (took them Jan 4th) - emailed and, again, they fixed it the same day.

Theoretically they're mailing to BU this week or beginning next week.

Since I work in Boston, already taking a class in the evening (Biostatistics) under the MPH Guest Student program - and, much to my surprise, am crazy gettin' it and lovin' it.

Background - BA in German, then certification in Health Info Management (involved Anatomy & Physiology, Disease Processes, Business Processes)- also certified CPT/ICD9 coder. Have worked in outpatient health records and billing/admin for many years - also in EMR (electronic medical record) implementation and design. Speak Spanish at native level (grew up in S. America), French and German fluently. Some volunteer experience at a free clinic as an interpreter.

GPAs about 3.2 (had a few probs as a freshman). GREs are Verbal 760/99 percentile , Quant 720/77 percentile [way better than I thought I'd do], Writing 5.0/73 percentile.

Hoping for the best - applying to international health (though epidemiology and ... who knows.. biostat.. are also interesting me).

Really hoping it works out -

DJ

JUST GOT ACCEPTED TO EMORY!!!!!!!!!!! i checked opus just for the heck of checking it( i hadn't received and email or anything) and i wasaccepted!!!!

Just found out that I got into both Emory and Columbia for Global Health!

When was your application to emory submitted janedoe? My application was complete with emory on 02/05/2008 and I haven't heard anything yet.

My application to Emory was complete on January 31.

Good luck to you!

Accepted: Drexel, GWU, & Columbia for Epi. Found out about Columbia today.

Rejected: BU, Yale (found out yesterday)

I'm totally feeling dejected, demoralized and ticked off right now. I just got the rejection letter from Yale. I don't get it. I had an interview with them and it lasted nearly an hour, and I thought it went well. The prof asked me to address'em by their first name!!!!!

I have a 1580 on my GRE with a perfect 6 for writing. I have a 3.5 cum GPA , I have lots of volunteer experience and work experience and I still got rejected from THEM?? they're ranked 16 for public health schools and they're highly selective??

are you kidding me? this is complete BS!!! Un-effing-believable. I had an undergraduate research paper published! And I got rejected??? This is ridiculous....😡

Yeah, I got rejected from Yale too, after having been accepted to Michigan, Columbia, Emory, and Pitt, all ranked much higher. I also have similar stats to you.

My best guess is that Yale knows they're ranked low and that many people use them as a safety school. Therefore, they're hesitant to accept people who are likely to get into better programs and turn them down. It looks bad for them to accept say 1000 people and have only 100 matriculate, so they accept the 200 or so they think are most likely to actually attend.

You have really amazing stats. F Yale🙂 You'll get into a much better place if you haven't already.

haven't heard from yale yet, but to be honest, you probably have a lot of great options to choose from.

i felt the same way during my undergraduate application process, having been rejected by 'lower ranked' schools. in the end though, it's a crapshoot. try not to be too upset, because you'll most likely end up loving wherever you go anyways, even without yale as an option.

I'm sorry, but I just don't think this idea holds water. Ivy League is Ivy League and even if US News decides to rank them a certain way, it doesn't change the fact that they are highly regarded in the real world. As someone who attends an Ivy League med school, I am constantly shocked by the amazing opportunities and recognition that the Ivy name buys. I know, it sounds cliche and all, but I now understand there is truth behind it all.

I'm sorry you didn't get in - as tt13 said, to some extent it's a rather random process - you certainly have great stats and probably will get in somewhere great regardless 👍 If anything, it's probably a matter of what your work experience is and how many years you have worked full-time. Also, some public health schools are trying to move away from accepting people with the intention to go to med school - not saying that either of those things necessarily apply to you.

No need to trash schools that other people have been accepted to and are excited about!

Thanks WantAnMPH, Epid1234, tt13, and Reimat for your encouraging words!🙂 The group support here is pretty awesome! Feeling better already. I'll get over it by tomorrow.

With all due respect Reimat, I don't think I was trashing Yale. I was letting out some steam, which is only human nature to do so. They send a letter to my house, with a few simple words.. "sorry... blah blah blah.. our process is highly selective." It's a lil irksome to read knowing how hard you worked academically, speaking. I think Yale is a great school and to all those that have been accepted to Yale- congrats! You'll love it there, I had a few friends that went there and they loved it! I'm just slightly bitter at the moment with good reason! LOL

Again, thanks everyone for the comforting words. You guys are awesome!🙂

I totally understand - I don't think you were trashing Yale either - I was speaking more to WantanMPH's comments (even though my statement came after quoting you). And honestly, I know everyone on here is good spirited and that his/her comments were only meant to make you feel better.

hey- if its cool, would you mind telling me if you received an email or mail from BU and Drexel?

I only applied to UCLA, Berkeley, BU and Drexel...and am having anxiety nowish. I need to stop checking student doctor but it's just too addictive!!!

thanks!

Was there any warning before your rejections? When were your applications received? Did you get the one email saying your app was complete and the one asking you to turn in financial aid info? Do rejections come in the mail or through email? Just trying to predict the future...🙁

Got accepted into the MHA program at Minnesota!!

( was really hoping to have one acceptance to write about here! lol )

Good for you, Kang! I haven't heard from the U yet, but I was accepted at Emory today.

It feels good to have one acceptance, finally!

Oh yes,it sure does! I'm also awaiting decision from UMich for the MHSA program so its going to be one tough call if I make it to both!

Hi,
I'm new to SDN but was wondering if anyone has heard back from schools of fall 2008?

I've applied to the following and have only heard back from one:
1) Drexel (accepted for Epidemiology MPH)
I was accepted into New York Medical College for the international health concentration. I'm still waiting on my other options to make a final decision, I'm hoping on Oregon State to say yes! (I am accepted into their program for global health but now i have to wait to get into the college) weird... Also I have an interview soon with Loma Linda. That was another top option of mine. Though I don't really know how public health schools are ranked.

dude i'm in the same situation. I've been accepted to a school in new york, but am not sure about it since I want to wait and hear from the other schools. I sent the letter back saying that I would accept their acceptance, i guess to hold my spot, but i'm still not sure. They should know that its a bit early to actually make a final decision. Though I did get rejected from Michigan GH prog. bummer...

So I say go a head and play it safe and accept one or a few and then decide on a final later. I just don't know when they will want me to pay?

By the way do you know anything about NY Med College?

HI audre04,
The decisions from BU & Drexel both came via mail. Best of luck!

So, question for all of you out there....I have been accepted by a coupole of schools so far, but am waiting to hear from more before I make a final decision about where I will be going in the fall. Should I send in an acceptance to 'save my place'? Will I get penalized for that if I decide not to go to the school? Can I accept at more than one place? just not sure how the whole process works, so if anyone has any insight, I would appreciate it. Thanks!!

received rejection today from UPenn

rejected by yale too, via snail mail.

1470GRE, 3.24 GPA, t-20 undergrad.

don't get it.

I notice alot of people qualifying themselves by GRE and GPA. I am not on any admissions committee but I suspect GRE matters very little to these programs. I think the letter of intent, GPA / institution from, and CV. I bet most universities just use a cut off to evaluate GRE scores.

I wonder if recommendations are a big deal?

I have completed a masters and am applying to doctorate public health programs right now so my reject/acceptances might not offer much to this forum.

Anyone else applying for PhD's?

and has anyone heard anything from Harvard? Someone mentioned they had already informed certain degrees of a wait list?

take care guys, good luck!

Can I ask what your stats are if you don't mind? I applied to UMich Epi as well.....

no problem. 3.65 Molecular/Cellular Bio from U of Wash, 690 V, 720 Q, 4.5 W. 1.5 years work experience in infectious disease lab (tech position). 2 years undergrad bio research and some experience abroad in Africa. Good luck!

Just thought that I would post what I have heard so far... I have been so addicted to reading everyone else's posts...

Accepted: Drexel, Brown
Denied: Emory

Waiting: UWash, USF, U mich, San Diego, Yale, BU, Arizona

I am not entirely sure why I applied to so many programs....

Okay, this might be the dumbest question ever asked on this forum but where does it say on the darn wolverine access thing when you get accepted?!!!! I've been going crazy checking 5 times a day and each time I wonder where they would mention if you are accepted! There is an application status, credentials and whatnot but where does the frickin decision reflect? 😡
