Hi! I'm going to be a Sophomore in the fall. So, I'm planning on taking Biology I (4.5 credits with 7 semester hours, including an hour of recitation) Anatomy & Physiology I (4.5 credits 6 semester hours, no recitation hour) and General Chemistry I and II lab course (3 credits 8 semester hours). Do you think the 21 semester hours laid out here are too much? Is taking the 8 hour chemistry labs an easy task. I have to keep Biology and A&P because I can only take them in the Fall. Lastly, if I replace the Chemistry labs course with a spanish course, would it undermine anything for taking a easy course (I'm a native speaker)? All in all are Are 2 science classes with their own lab and the two lab chemistry course with a total of 21 hours too much? Replace it or no? Thank you, and sorry for the excessive length.

I think that is way too much. That is an awful lot of hard science courses.

But - It depends on your desired GPA.. And if you have kids or not.

There are a lot of factors that go into this decision. When I was in my early twenties with no wife/kids, I could handle a course load like that.

What kind of science background do you have? I remember my very first semester of college I took gen chem 1 and bio 1, and man, it was a rude awakening. You have a year of college under your belt, so maybe it'll be easier for you, but realize you're probably going to be working your butt off. As mentioned already, if you don't have heavy family/work commitments you can probably pull it off, but don't get in over your head.

Where I did my undergrad Bio I was a prereq for A&P I, so I couldn't have done that. It really is going to depend on how much you can handle - I will say this, I think A&P would be easier if not taken in the same semester as ORGO, so your schedule is favorable in that regard. But that is a heavy course load, so it just depends on what you can handle. Chem I and Bio I are both easy comapred to A&P and ORGO, so it just depends on what you think you can do.

EDIT: Wait, you can take Chem I & II in the same semester? I take it back, that is crazy. You should seriously consider cutting something out, you don't want to set yourself up for failure.

yea that is definately too much for one semester!! can you not take the chem I lab separate from the lab II? if you can i would just take chem I...if not then save the chems for next semester

I already took General Chemistry I and II. I am only taking the lab portions of the two general chemistry courses, and biology with lab and A&P with lab. Lol, still too much?

You seem to be taking 12 credits, which is on the low side. I don't know what a semester hour is, so I can't say if 21 is a lot.

At my old school, Chem I & II labs were practically a joke, so it wouldn't have been much to add them to A&P and Bio, which shouldn't be too hard to take together if you are allowed to. Do you not have any gen ed or humanity class that you need to take?

The semester hours indicate how many hours of the course a person takes every week. I'm planning to take the general education courses the year after. Right now, I want to take science courses because I'll be taking the PCAT late 2012.

Sooo, it's two courses and four labs? Yes, I think you can handle it. That schedule is actually pretty light if you ask me.

It is light, but time is scarce and 21 semester hours is my limit. If I put an extra course, I would have to spend more time in school and less time on studying. Besides, I don't want to start accelerating without a little pacing.

I don't remember studying for Gen Chem I and II labs at all. Same goes for Biology recitation (I had one too). It was just a bit of busy work every week which wasn't a big deal. I'd take another class if I was you. Maybe philosophy to get your off of being in lab all the time.

Heck, I missed that. I thought you meant you were doing the gen chem 1 and 2 lectures as well. I'm not even sure how that would be possible though. My lack of attention to detail doesn't bode well for my future as a pharmacist

That's actually a reasonably light schedule considering that the labs are much easier than the lectures. The courses could be tough depending on your school and ability, but if anything I think you could stand to throw the Spanish course in there too.

Cool! Lol. I'll put that on my list as well then.

Just judging by the number of credits I would say you will have no problem. I work 6 hours a day and am taking 17 credits Fall 2011 as a Sophomore but thats no different than this semester and I am not really having much trouble, apart from a professor who can't teach 😛
