You've all been so helpful in the past, I need honest opinions here...

So, life happened and, as it turns out, I'm pregnant (for anyone who hasn't read a previous post of mine, I'm 30+ and already have a child... so I'm in a different place in life than many/most of you). This was not my plan, but I'm even more set on my goals because becoming a dentist will be good for my family.

My original plan
Fall 2016: Ochem 1, Anatomy
Spring 2016: Ochem 2, Physiology
Summer: Apply and take the DAT.

New plan
Fall 2016: Ochem 1, Accelerated Anatomy & Physiology
***My due date is right in between the semesters... Kindof the best case scenario.
Spring 2017: Ochem 2
Summer: Apply and take the DAT.

Thoughts? The main goal behind this switch is to take more classes before the baby comes because after he/she is here, I'm going to have my work cut out for me just to complete the single class and prep for the DAT with a newborn.

The academic year after applying will be tough to manage as it is, so I don't think it would be possible to delay Physiology till the next year.
Fall 2017: Physics 1 + Biochem
Spring 2018: Physics 2 + Microbio

If you think you can handle it, go for it. It's only 12 or so credits total. Just stay on top of everything. Any specific reason that you need that course? A&P isn't required by the majority of dental schools.

I was thinking the same thing, but 12 science credits while pregnant, working full time, and having a family is going to be rough. I've been told by some professors that orgo should be considered a "full time job" and the same with A&P. It's just a lot of full time jobs to manage simultaneously.

As for why I'm taking it, it's required at Midwestern & ASDOH. Two schools I need to keep on my short list as a non-trad with a rough undergrad but awesome post-bacc.

I agree that it will NOT be easy. If you're having serious doubts, maybe it is best to not take the accelerated course. I can't imagine how hard it must be to juggle full time work AND a family on top of school. You don't want to perform badly in them, and you never know what can happen with your pregnancy (being sick, etc). I feel like I can't give you solid advice because I haven't been in the same situation. You know what you're capable of in the long run, don't overdo it.

I was accepted to MWU AZ without having taken anatomy. Is it possible that you can put off those courses until you find out where you will be going? There are quite a few people in my Facebook 2020 group who are taking the classes online after getting an acceptance.

Yeah, I've never been in this situation either. 🙂 I guess I'll figure it out. Thanks for the advice though.

This could actually work. Any idea where your future classmates are taking online physiology? I guess I'm just worried about overloading the year after I apply. If I happen to only get admitted to Midwestern (and I would be ok with this since I really like the school and their faculty), I'd then end up tripling up in the spring semester with Physics II, Microbio & Physiology. That sounds pretty painful too...

I don't know of any online physiology classes. Is it possible you could take physiology in the fall and then not take anatomy until summer? You would need to see all of the start dates for the schools that require anatomy to see if you would have enough time to finish the class in the summer

Hmm... I'll look into it. I can't take Physio before because I'm taking it at a community college and Anatomy (Bio 201) is a prereq for Physio (Bio 202). Midwestern starts late August, right? If so, this could work.

Judging by your previous posts, you are more than mature and disciplined enough to handle this. I have no doubt you'll do well. Congrats on the bun in the oven!
Thanks! I look forward to reading your rundown of life as a D1 after you finish up your first semester of dental school this fall.

[Not so subtle suggestion!🙂]
