Schedule:

Biochem I
P-chem I

Chem research seminar (required for biochem majors; 1 credit)
Ceramics
General psych

My dilemma pertains to the forthcoming fall semester and subsequent spring semester.

My top choice schools do not require psychology (I do have an interview for one of my top picks and the other schools I desire to attend don't give out interviews until September). I was thinking that I can postpone psych until spring if it turns out that I need to take it. However, my bottom two schools require psychology and microbiology (have not taken). I don't know if I want to end up in a position where I need to take biochem II, P-chem II, micro, and psych my last semester as an undergrad before dental school…would you?

Ideally, I just want to take the classes in blue above this fall so that I can still be consider full-time for my scholarships. Also, I want an easier corse load considering the two science classes I have to take.

Should I not take the ceramics class and take psych in the fall or should keep it easy this fall and wait to take psych if needed in the spring (most likely with micro and the other two science classes above)?

Thanks.

1. Is your micro a lab?
2. What else would you be taking in Spring?

Micro has lab and I would be taking it with biochem 2 and p-chem 2 (as well as psych, unless I take psych this fall to be safe).

How good were you in general bio lecture? Intro psych for me was pretty much bio with a different set of vocabulary.

Decent, but I definitely had to work for my bio 1 & 2 grades, as well has genetics. I just heard that p-chem is brutal and biochem can be tough (but I was good in orgo) so I want to have as much time studying for those 2 classes.

I am leaning towards not taking psych and gambling on getting into the schools I want to go to that don't require psych or micro. But I know it's probably best to take psych this fall regardless.

I would take Intro Psych this fall. 1) It is probably easy. 2) It is for your top choices. 3)You're a senior. You can handle a full class load.

Seems like you'll have to work either way. PChem's difficulty is dependent on the professor, but for me (bad at maths) thermo was tougher than quantum. The hardest part of BioC is memorizing cell reactions, so if you still remember them from general bio you should be fine for that.

I also recommend taking Psych this fall, art courses can sometimes be more frustrating than science courses for us sciencey people, just because of how subjective grading becomes.

I would push back ceramics if you can then. If it's not like...4 days a week that is. Just because it might be a fun class to have that isn't all about memorization and labs.
Otherwise I think it'll be ok if you cant.

-have you taken your DAT?
-does your school offer a winter semester?

Yes, I do have an interview to Iowa and they do not require psych or micro, nor do my other top choice schools. I am awaiting to hear from my other top picks; they don't send interviews out until late Aug and Sept. My issue is, whether I should gamble on getting into Iowa, etc., and not even bother with psych/micro… I just want a chill last year before dental school.

We do have a 1 month J-term so I think I should go back and look at last year to see if psych was offered then.

Thanks.

Definitely take psych and micro, you didn't pay to apply to those schools for nothing so do everything you can to get into every school you applied to. That way it will be nice to have options come December or early spring! Also, don't be fooled by ceramics hahah. I worked the hardest in that class while taking 4 other science classes. Therefore, I would take it in the fall because I am sure the second part of those science courses will be harder and will require more time that ceramics would otherwise take away. Don't get me wrong, it is super fun and definitely gets those manual dexterity skills working, but I was in the studio every weekend working on projects in addition to my class being 3 hours twice a week.

This is great! Very much appreciated. I'll just take psych, not ceramics. And amen to thee excessive studio time required. Sculpting class was like that and I had a tendency to go overboard on my projects, which would take a lot of time. Thanks!

I think this is a good compromise.

I agree, if you took sculpting already, drop ceramics.
