Hi guys,

I am a junior in highschool and I want to get an edge by starting to research and just get some general knowledge on the field of pharmacy, news, drug names, etc. I believe knowing more about these topics may give me an advantage in an interview. I was wondering if any of you knew a source I could use to start my studying on free time? Maybe a beginners area to start off in. Thanks!🙂

Okay thanks for the reply,

I feel I know a substantial amount of information about the career and where it is heading. I just attended Ohio Northern's Explore Pharmacy day and they focused on a big part of their interview being a written response on current part of pharmacy in the news. Where would I find this "news"?

As far as drugs go, get to know these:

Viagra
Effexor
Prevacid
Zyprexa
Norvasc
Zocor
Advair
Nexium
Plavix

And the king of all drugs goes to!!! Lipitor!

Also know your antibiotics, and pain relievers. Everything else is irrelevant. (of course I am being sarcastic, but it would seem that pharmaceutical companies care most about what sells the best).

Here you can find some articles about issues of current interest in pharmacy. For example, one of their features there is about drug shortages, and I have seen various articles about drug shortages in mainstream national news lately.

...stuff.... and then...

Everything else is irrelevant. (of course I am being sarcastic, but it would seem that pharmaceutical companies care most about what sells the best).

... so your alternative is that the pharmaceutical companies care about and hype up products that don't sell?

I don't see you complaining about

  • the Ipad3 or about the newest Droid or even Intel's new processor improvements since they are such amazing over the previous models. You know, that whole extra 0.004 GHz you get out of that new processor is really gonna make a difference!
  • or about this year's wicked 'new' 3-series BMW and how its really not all that different from a Kia. 4 wheels that turn, isnt that all you need?
  • or about the fact that you probably bought several different biology or chemistry textbooks for class despite the fact that the books said the same exact thing with different syntax.
  • or that Versace and Armani should close up shop and open up more affordable t-shirt lines to compete with the boardwalk shops. Because if it covers your goodies, isnt that all that anyone really cares about?
And my question is, why not?

The reality is that you've been programmed to speak that response without really thinking critically about what you are saying.

But hey, if you want to get into a big bad pharma argument, lets throw down. But I suggest you don't bring a knife to a gunfight. 😀

I think my best bet is to keep up to date with the news and look into maybe the top 50 or so drugs and just keep myself educated on them. Thanks!
