Rachel's ex-fiance on "Friends" was Barry, the orthodontist. There was one episode where she dated Russ the periodontist, a Ross look-alike.

Wasn't there a dentist on Seinfeld as well? Isn't that where the *****ic question "What do you call someone who can't get into med school?" was broadcast all over pop culture?

You're an anti-dentite! Next you're going to be saying that they should have their own schools!!!

The electric chair was invented by a dentist (from Buffalo, I think!)

Forgive my ignorance, but are you referring to THE Doc Holliday? Like the ultimate poker, and gunfighting bad ass from the OK corral, and the character in one of the greatest western movies ever made? (that would be Tombstone) Or is it someone else? If so then all dentists should strive after him, and yeah I guess the other ones mentioned that invented cool stuff too.

That's the guy, the gunslinging, hard drinkin', hard fightin;, hard fartin', sonofabitch

Yep. THE Doc Holliday went to dental school at U Penn. He contracted TB though and had to move to a dryer climate which brought him out west. Apparently he used to get into coughing fits while extracting teeth or filling cavities. He was forced to give up practice 3 times due to the adverse effects of TB. I guess he settled on gunfighting as a back-up plan. Mental note: Don't get TB.

I'm your huckleberry. (love that movie)

what about the movie 'the dentist' or something like that....the one where he is a psycho-killer....anyone see it?

About the infamous dentists like Lawrence Oliver in the "Marathon Man". If your dentist asks you "Is it safe yet?", head for the door.

I saw that movie. Classic bad, cheezy, horror film. The 3rd baseman from major league was the crazy dentist in that one.

If I remember correctly the question was "What do you call someone who failed out of medical school?"
Wasn't there some about oral surgeons on that show too? Like George saying "I can't figure out why they call them ORAL surgeons?"

You know the part of the movie where Matthew Perry's character is brushing his teeth all meticulous-like? My friends were watching the movie while I was at the library studying and they all laughed at me b/c they imagined I am the same way+pity+ ...turns out I really am.🙄 😀

cuba gooding jr....snow dogs...he's a dentist

I still haven't seen it...but there's some kind of torture sceen in the movie Marathon Man that has a Dentist doing the torture. Apparently older patients sometimes bring this movie up at the office I used to work at.

Ya someone else in this thread mentioned it already. They showed part of it to us during Gateway to Dentistry during a lecture 'Images of Dentistry in the Media'. That was a fun lecture haha.

That made me want to watch the whole thing to figure out what the evil dentist wanted Dustin Hoffman's character to tell him.

The torture scene is where Lawrence Oliver plays a elderly Nazi dentist who drills to the root of each of Dustin Hoffman's good teeth without any anesthesia. What Oliver wants to know is if any government law enforcement agents are looking for him so he would know when he can smuggle out his diamonds.

The movie Punch-Drunk Love

Barry (Adam Sandler): I wanted to ask you something because you're a doctor... I don't like myself sometimes. Can you help me?
Walter: Barry, I'm a dentist. What kind of help do you think I could give you?

someone also mentioned "reign over me" - another adam sandler movie with a dentist connection. can't wait for it to come out on dvd. it looks like a really good movie.

here's my famous dentist shoutout -- the dentist who developed x-ray radiography many decades ago. i dont recall his name, but he developed cancer in the hand he used to hold the film plate next to the patient's mouth after many many years. sad, but true

There's a movie I've heard about called "The Secret Lives of Dentists"...anybody ever see it?

Tim Allen played a dentist in the recent movie "Wild Hogs."
