Hey guys! FAMU is my number one choice, Primarily because of their solid curriculum and their exeptionally reasonable tuition cost. Not to mention the legacy of great pharmacist they continue to develp. I'm a florida boy and would like to stay in state. I'll post my stats below. Anyone who has been through their application process please feel free to chime in.

GPA 3.15 ( Several Withdrawals on transscript due to medical illness)
Science GPA 3.6
prereq's almost a GPA 3.8
Excellent personal statement
Average recommendations
one summer enrichment program / internship ( Columbia University)
Over 1000 hours volunteer work ( medical settings)
Certified Pharmacy Tech 3 months experience
No pcat may not take it due to heavy class load this upcoming semester.

I wouldn't focus only on FAMU. Consider all of the other Florida schools. FAMU has some of the lowest NAPLEX pass rates at 88%. Your science GPA would be on average for UF.

Naplex rates are lower because some of the 6 year program students struggle, a lot of knucklehead 19 and 20 year olds not ready for pharmacy school. 130/141 passed. For the other 11 the fact they didn't pass is on them. I would know the school does more then enough to prepare you.

I'm a FAMU alumni currently doing a residency. Naplex scores are important but 88% doesn't mean the school is horrible.

Tuition is also cheaper. My first four years were undergrad tuition. UF is an amazing pharmacy school but I'm happy with my experience at FAMU. My professors were amazing. One of our top professors left to go be I think assistant dean at USF pharmacy school.

I'm not a FAMU student but I was in rotation with several P4 from that school. They are now given a Rxprep their final year, they have to watch every video and pass all quizzes with a 100%. That will basically has you more than prepared for the NAPLEX. other than that, I feel like they students were very stressed out while on rotations, they had several school projects/assignments/meetings plus whatever work they had to do for the rotation. One student was so busy she didn't present her journal club when it was due and had to come back after her rotation was over to present it.. It wasn't great either :/

FAMU is definitely cheaper than the private schools in Florida, although their Naplex pass rates are consistently the lowest in the state. I would try for UF also, and even accept their satellite program if you qualify.

At the end of the day though, it doesn't matter what school you go to. The education you receive will be based solely on the level of effort you put in. Good luck.

Greetings All!

I have been having a hard time with the admission's office at this school. They have been non responsive to my voicemails. When I finally did get a hold of someone she was very...unpleasant (to say the least). It's kind of discouraging because I feel as though she could be possibly foreshadowing what one would have deal if I do end up applying/attending.

Anywho, just wondering if you had any luck with the admissions office?! Or any current students out there that would like to share their experience?!

Thanks.

**graduate of FAMU**

I laugh when people talk about low pass rates. My school graduates 150 a year so every single person who fails weighs more than lets say UF or MCPHS who produces twice as much a year. And when it comes down to its how great a person can take a standardize test. Doesn't me lack of knowledge, some school care more about you passing a standardize test and some care about you knowing how to apply your knowledge post graduation..

I would be more focuses on the job opportunities available post degree based on what school you go to.....o wait...that barely affects your job growth. Wait it must effect your pay?? o wait..it doesn't...

So basically I pay nearly 1/3- 1/4 price to get the same degree (only grad with 45k debt and thats already gone..)..job opportunities(Ex. 1/4 of all District Managers of Publix in Florida graduated from FAMU).....lifestyle...who half the future stress :wow:

Can confirm. FAMU graduate and I am stoked that I only had 60K worth of loans for 6 years of college. I will say, dealing with administration outside of the college of pharmacy is difficult. Within the confines of the college, everyone is easy to deal with.

Are you referring to the admissions office to the college of pharmacy or the university?

This is very common. I've heard over a dozen different negative/horrible experiences from friends and acquaintances with the FAMU admissions office. They have completely lost entire applications before.

That's disappointing to hear. It's really a shame. Thanks for the info though.
