anyone use it or know a lot about it?

I have a patient I inherited on it who has been on it for 3 months. I looked it up and, really, don't see any reason to use it instead of something more cost effective.....am I missing something?

You can carry it around without worrying about stigma because most people don't know what it is. You never know when you might want to kill your buzz ie. after partying really hard or getting into a fight.

As far as I can tell, the only AP of the newest 2nd gen drugs is lurasidone. I see it as kind of a 3rd line 2nd generation AP for folks who gain weight with risperidone and olanzapine, but can't tolerate the akathisia associated with aripiprazole and ziprasidone. It has filled in that niche nicely for me.

I had an exceptionally poor and exceptionally sick woman who was doing okay on quetiapine but was growing out of her clothes and had no money to replace them. I tried ziprasidone, and even with propranolol for the akathisia she felt like she was going crazy from it. In steps lurasidone and she's lost 30 lbs and has been rock solid stable for about a year. So, N of 1, but seems useful.

I don't see the potential for similar utility with iloperidone.
