i was a little unsure about the schools you could waive application fees for fap. Is it just your first 13 schools or are there 13 specific schools?

"Waiver of the application fees for submitting the completed AMCAS application to up to 13 medical schools. Applicants pay an additional fee for each school beyond the 13 free applications."

From what ive searched im assuming its your first 13 schools, i just wanted to verify.

Oh and does anyone know how to be eligible for Fap?

"Am I Eligible for FAP?
FAP eligibility decisions are tied directly to the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services' poverty level guidelines. For the 2009 calendar year, applicants whose total family income is 300 percent or less of the poverty level for their family size are eligible for fee assistance."

Does anyone know what those numbers might be or where to find them?

(By the way sorry if i dont respond to any replies, i will be falling asleep right now because i work the night shift at a hospital 7p-7a)

Thanks in advance for everything😀

The first 13 schools you apply to are the ones that the fees will be waive. Any additional school after that is $31 dollars. You eligibility is determined by your income as well as the income of your family. I believe that they use similar formulas like those used to grant financial aid in college when you fill out your fasfa.

Hope that helps!

first of all, apply here: https://services.aamc.org/fap/

secondly... 13 of your schools will be free on AMCAS. all others you'll have to pay $31 for. i applied to 18 schools and paid only $155. almost all schools will waive the secondary fee, though. i didn't pay a single secondary fee. i know there are some schools that don't take FAP waivers, but they are few and far between. check MSAR to see which ones.

Thanks. I was also reading about it and i noticed you have to apply for it the year you plan on taking mcat/applying. I was wondering how early in advance you usually need to secure an mcat date. My plans were to take a may or june mcat. If i apply for fap in january and wait to hear back, would that leave me anough time to secure a may or june mcat? I just dont know how far in advance slots fill up/ how long fap takes to process.

Thanks again for everything

If you google the poverty guidelines it should bring up a government website with the actual numbers listed. That way you can use the number of people in your household to figure out if you qualify. Also, FAP doesn't take that long to get approved. It took about a week for me but I'm not sure if that was peak-season time or a down time in their application processing. I think it takes up to 1 month max. Yeah, if you apply in Jan that should give you plenty of time to get approved and still sign up for a May/June date. Early may is a really good time to sign up (and you'll get your scores back at a good time). A decent amount of students are about to have final exams at that time so they don't sign up for the MCAT. I took a May 2nd date and was very happy I chose to take it when I did.
