I'm sure this question has been asked before, but how can you apply for financial aid if you don't know what school you will be accepted to/attend?

I did my FAFSA last week...There is a section to add your schools. You can add all the schools you have applied to. This means your info will be sent to all those schools. Need to check the school deadlines. Some are this week.

I was just about to post to see if anyone had finished their FAFSA. It's sooo aggrivating especially since I'm in one of those "limbo" situations..I wasn't considered an independent last year cause of my age (despite that I had worked full time for 2 years). Now I'm back in school, and though I'm considered an independent NOW I still need to provide my parents info (which isn't easy when one lives 4 hours away and the other lives on the other side of the country.) I'm just aggrivated, which is compiling after the stress of ALL my midterms and projects being due within the next two weeks.

I am in the same situation regarding going from dependent to independent. From what I understand you don't have to provide your parent's information, it is just recommended. I emailed the school which I am most likely going to attend and asked if not filing my parent's info will affect my loans/aid and they said no. You should just email a couple of your potential school's financial aid office.

I feel your pain as I am had a couple of interviews and acceptances, but not at my top choices yet, therefore I am also in limbo. I also read on another thread that you can just put all the schools that you are attending and narrow it down later.

Do you have to add all schools at the same time before submitting? Can you add some schools later after submission?

You can always go back and update the schools, it only takes them about 1 week to update the info and send it to the school.

I know this neat trick that my school's financial aid advisor told us (it's particularly handy to students applying to a lot of schools):

Everyone knows that FAFSA only allows you to list about 5-6 schools at the time of application right? If you've applied to more schools and unsure which school you will go to, first submit 5-6 schools, then go back to correct your FAFSA, remove those schools, and submit the correction FAFSA with the next 5-6 schools. You can keep repeating until you've finished your list of schools. This way, all of the schools will receive a copy of the FAFSA. 😀

If your parents are divorced (which it sounds like provided the above info) you only need to put down one parent....ie the one that provided support. At my school you only need to put down parent info if you want to qualify for certain loans-HPSL, so I opted not to because I just didn't think it was worth the hassle.

Also don't forget when they ask for your checking/savings account balances to subtract out financial aid loans received. Since this is more towards the beginning of the semester people might have a lot of finaid in their accounts still and that doesn't count towards your assets since it's a loan!

I already submitted my FAFSA, and yesterday I received an email from financial aid office at LLU asking for additional forms to complete my "application". I am still waiting for ...an interview invitation from LLU (i know it's kinda too late to receive one now, but just hoping!), so do you think the email from the financial aid dept shows that LLU is still ..reviewing my app? 😳
