Fats have more energy per unit than carbohydrates but doesn't the body process carbohydrates first? then fats? then proteins last.

Plus if fats are so energy rich- it's still so bad for us health wise since it clogs arteries and etc.

This is probably sounding so dumb but I'm just trying to make the connections and couldn't quite understand it all 😕

why does the body do carbs before fats?

That's because breaking down fat requires alot more energy than breaking down carb. For every carbon attached to fat, it has to go the beta-oxidation and that requires alot of energy. For carbs on the other hand, it's pretty much hydrolysis, and 2 ATP for every glucose.

Second, break down of fat takes much longer than break down of sugar. and therefore, it takes a while for the energy to actually kick in, and if you are starving and such, this might not be fast enough.

third, breakdown of fat creates metabolic wastes such as keto-acids (seen in diabetics) which is bad for us and needed to be removed.

Conclusion, carbs are better.
