FAU and UM to sever ties

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is a shocker, I wonder how this affects future interest in FAU for MD admissions. So the people matriculating this year would continue the 4yr UM program uninterrupted right??

Also, I looked up Kellogg's Doctoral programs and I'm confused, it seems like it consists of 6 courses, there's no talk about thesis research and even the 6 courseload is extremely light even for an MS program... I'm I missing something?

here's the link...

Probably for the best for all involved parties... 🙂

At this point, it is believed that the matriculating class of 2010 will be the final UM class to do the four year curriculum in Boca. It's all still up in the air right now though...

wtf, no one told us their agreement was expiring this year

 yea i didn't hear about it either at the U, but i canceled my boca interview though. i dont think it will affect the 2014 class, but idk

oy, i only interviewed at boca, now i wish i had done the main campus too. at least it looks like i'd still get a UM degree if i matriculate this year. i'm just worried that everything will be in turmoil while i'm in school :scared:

Yeah I had a feeling it would happen too. It doesn't make any sense that a large public university wouldn't be itching to do its own thing. I did get accepted to Boca, and so far I'm planning on going there. I don't mind through that they're splitting as long as I get my medical degree from UM, which according to the article, will only be granted to this year's matriculating class.

Hopefully they will be accepting lots of FAU undergrads! I am taking my post bacc classes at FAU this year. Hopefully Scripps puts tons of money into the med school and makes it top notch.

Wow so if FAU becomes its own medical school then Florida has a lot of new medical schools. What, like three others in FL opened up in the last few years already?

Yup that would be 3 schools in 3 yrs!!!

I guess FIU has new competition given its status as the only state med school in S. FL will b no more. With Scripp's partnership I'm sure FAU will try to focus on research whereas FIU is more inclined toward community/primary care so I guess they can co-exist...

I think you forgot about USF (university of south florida) lolz

USF has been around for a while... >40yrs.. the new/proposed FL schools are FIU, UCF and now FAU...

Now Florida sounds like the next best state to be a resident of after Texas for medical school. Look at how many public medical schools they're going to have.

Does anyone have any new information as to whether this deal went through? Neither UM nor FAU have any info on changes for the upcoming application cycle. I am looking at Florida schools and Scripps/FAU seems very interesting.
