what are everyones favorite books (up to 3) excluding books such as orgo chem, and Gchem (i know its tempting)...

What are the flippin' chances that we both have SPHERE as our top 3?!! I've read it like a million times - I don't know why, but its' really enjoyable to read over and over again.

😉

hmmm... i figured i would read a bit about it since both of you seem so enthusiastic about it. I ended up buying it on amazon for $.01

A Tender Bar
Soul of a Medicine
Knife Man

Three that's tough! I'd say....(not necessarily in that order)

1. To Kill a Mockingbird
2. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
3. The Color of Water

Mine would be...

1. A Song of Ice and Fire Series [favorite one out of the series is A Clash of Kings]
2. Harry Potter [I deny this in real life though...]
3. Speaker for the Dead [sequel to Ender's game.. Ender's game would come in 4th though!]

Yah.. I'm into mostly scifi and fantasy...

1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower
2. The Silence of the Lambs
3. 1984

What I've read (and liked) recently:

-A Few Seconds of Panic by Stefan Fatsis
-anything by Haruki Murakami (especially What I Talk About When I Talk About Running)
-Outcasts United by Warren St. John
-the Fables series by Bill Willingham (and its spin-off, Jack of Fables)
-Sneaker Wars by Barbara Smit
-Gang Leader for a Day by Sudhir Venkatesh (if you liked the part about drug dealing in Freakanomics, you'll want to read this)
-Men With Balls by Drew Magary

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
East of Eden by John Steinbeck

A liberal who likes Ayn Rand? 😱
yeah.. weird I know...but it is those situation that you find everything in this book is fascinating and the book is extremely well-written, you dont have to agree with everything the author says to love the book..rights? 😵

This is the first thread to motivate me to reply...

A Tale of Two Cities
Pathologies of Power by Paul Farmer - a MUST READ for every aspiring
health field professional
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Love in the Time of Cholera
Self-Reliance - RWE (essay)

These are my absolute favorites, the list could go on forever if I started listing books that I love...

What do you think about Brothers Karamazov? I liked it more than Crime and Punishement.

Dostoyevsky is overrated. I didn't like either of the two, as the characters seemed so ******ed I couldn't relate to them. Who the heck commits a murder as part of a philosophical discussion (particularly with himself in the case of Crime and Punishment)?

Autobiography of Malcolm X
Clash of Civilizations
Artificial Intelligence Illuminated (science-y, but very cool stuff).

1. Tale of Two Cities
2. To Kill a Mockingbird
3. Pride and Prejudice
4. Count of Monte Cristo
5. Joy Luck Club
6. Animal Farm

Fiction

American Gods
The Temeraire books
The Ender books
The Hitchhiker books
Catch-22

Non-fiction

Generation Kill and One Bullet Away
Anything by Michio Kaku
A Brief History of Nearly Everything

1) Catch-22
2) Foundation-EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT read. Short and sweet.
3) 1984/Brave New World...I can't choose!
