Hey all... I'm currently debating between Micro Made Ridiculously Simple and Lippincot flash cards. Any favorites / experiences with those or others that I'm not thinking about? I'm not trying to use multiple resources.

Thanks.

Lol FA.

Between the resources you've listed, micro cards.

microcards (good break down of the pathogenesis. plus color coding for type of microbe!) and FA (good mnemonics)

There is a strange trend: sooo many people seem to be joining the forum just to talk about how awesome Picmonic (or whatever) is 😀

I'm currently taking Microbiology and I really like the Levinson book. It is quite detailed but it breaks down things nicely (disease, properties, pathogenesis, clinical findings, lab work, treatment, prevention). There are nice review tables and a very decent summary of bugs. On top of that there is a good immunology section.
I'm not that much of a fan of CMMRS - I find it a bit disorganized and it sometimes gets annoying - the illustrations often present something that is easy to remember on it's own, without the cartoon. The tables are amazing though.

Haven't tried the other resources, so I can't comment on them.

Both CMMRS and Microcards are highly recommended in FA. Ultimately, go with what fits your style.

As for other resources, Rapid Review Microbiology and Immunology is another well written book (the author is one of the authors of the classic textbook Murray's Medical Microbiology), but it can be a bit dense. Lange Review of Medical Microbiology and Immunology (Levinson) is excellent, but it's even longer than Rapid Review. Finally, people tend to dislike Kaplan Lecture Notes for Microbiology (probably because it is very thick), but I've found it to be well written as well.

there's a video series out called sketchy micro, which does the visual mnemonics thing also if you're not into picmonic. people seem to like picmonic for micro though so maybe one of those resources could help. CMMRS is still most helpful imo

I think MMRS is a good supplement. It really depends on how tough your micro course is though. I didn't really have time to read MMRS anymore after things kicked into gear, so I just used it if I needed clarification on something. I also bought the cards because I'm anal and like to have whatever I hear the best resources are, but they weren't sufficient for my Micro course. I'm actually a big fan of flash cards, but I don't know that I'd really recommend them. Step-wise, the cards likely include a lot of the info you need, but it omitted a good deal of material that was included in my course so I don't really get much use out of them.

... And yea it seems that everyone loves Picmonic at my school as well. Never got a chance to look in to it though.

I like that Clinical Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple book. It's a classic. I also have the microcards--I refer to those from time to time but really, I just rely on course notes.

I've been told by upperclassmen that FA is sufficient for boards micro.
