How did everyone find it?

The soap carving was almost identical to the carving in November and the bio was hard as usual but i didn't think it was as bad as the November DAT.

well maybe i should've checked your post before starting a new thread on the same subject...but yea I found the bio. hard but everything else didn't seem too bad...just hoping that the distribution on the bio will be favorable :xf:

Really? I found the chem to be more tough - I couldn't figure out that damned first question about the geomtery 😡 I think the organelle question was an easy one but I didn't know what it was until I heard someone talk about it.

How'd you guys find the PAT and RC?

I felt the PAT was pretty easy and RC was annoying as usual, it's got NOTHING to do with actual comprehension, lol.

what was the answer for the picture given in bio?
apparatus used for boiling solution in chem?

What did you guys choose for the question about recombinant DNA question? you know the one whose answer choices are DNA ligase, restriction endonuclease, and RFLP..etc...

I chose the last one..I think it was electrophoresis. There was something wrong with the one about restriction endonuclease which was the only other one that could be right - it said that it cuts mRNA...but that can't be correct right?

yeah, right..I got that question wrong then...sigh...) How about the one about the experiment with chicken teeth? I answered that mouse's cell can differentiate into chicken teeth...I think it was A...It asked what the experiment "demonstrated"...so I thought the whole point is that mouse's embryonic cell is totipotent...being able to differentiate into any type of tissue...what do you guys think??

yes,i even put the goggles!!!LOL!!!I found bio easy....,well yea even i just guessed for that picture thing in bio..

I took the test in U of T,and i found that they gave us 5-7 mins less time for each section.did any1 feel the same?

Yeah it was definitely the electrophoresis for the recombinant dna question

No they were spot on - did you use a timer?

The only mistake they made was they could have cut the break short and screwed over a handful of people but I'm not sure - I doubt it. The proctor was too anal to not follow the time to the T.

The "half-mistake" they made was on RC - the guy anounced "you have 5 mins left" when my timer was at 43min so I was like "WTF? Okay, so I have til 48min instead of 50min" so I rushed and realized they let it go til 50min...

Dumb proctor also should have said to use the marker to mark your name on the soap if that's what she wanted - in the CDA manual is says you could use the blade to carve in your name so that's what I did and almost got in **** for it.

That was a tough one, I believe I chose the answer that says it shows that chicken has developmental control over mouse cells.

hey guys, how did u answer the "chicken teeth" question? hahaha..I don't know why I feel I 'd found chem harder than bio...Is it only me?

Ya that picture on bio was stupid it just looked like a blob of bad photocopying... there was also one keyhole where i swear there wasnt an answer...i spent like 5 minutes looking at it

I'd definitely take chem over the bio any day....only so much you can do with chem, but bio...who knows what their smoking when they make that.

It's like xylem said...there was something in the latter part of the question. Electrophoresis is definitely used to isolate recombinant dna and to insert it into vectors to be placed in whatever you're interested in...could have read something wrong though, so who knows. Just gotta wait and see.

Oh yeah, I remember now. What was wrong with answer A with the ligase and DNA polymerase?

I think it said ligase is used to cut but ligase is used to seal DNA. I think DNA polyermase one said it is used to make DNA from mRNA which is wrong, DNA Polymerase copies DNA from DNA.

yes i absolutely agree with marcusnasland, there was not answer for one keyhole.i think there was a printing mistake.i dont think we would get mark for that!!!such a stupid people...

I don't know about the keyhole, but the hole punching section was so annoying!! There was a couple of questions where a hole was in between the lines. There was only one single hole in the middle of a folded rectangle, and It was not clear whether the hole was on the fourth row or the third row. I was so pissed off during the exam!! cause we don't even have time to ask because of the time pressure!

By the way, there was one chemisry question in bio section...you know the one that asks about two states with energy?? what did you guys choose? "heat and chemical" or "potential and kinetic"?? I absolutely had no idea how to answer this...

yea i agree,in hole punching was also the same,u just cant make out where the hole is,in third or fourth row in some of the questions.
In chem i chose exergonic and endergonic,i dont know if thats correct,i just guessed it....

it was my first time writing the DAT and it went wayyy better than I expected!! 🙂

my soap carving was better than any of my practice carvings! (I sliced my finger the night before while practicing, but I still managed well during the test. haha) i felt bad for the girl beside me b/c she didn't finish hers.

bio was a bit tricky (multiple guess for sure lol), but chem was easy and so was reading comp! PAT i also agree had some printing errors - especially in the hole punching!!

do you how long it usually is until we get the results?

6-8 weeks. People who took the Nov DAT in the first week got the results the last week of Dec. So I'm thinking last week of April we should get the results back, maybe earlier since less people took the Feb one.

Hey guys there was a question that asks "why would primitive organisms not survive in today's earth?" what did you guys choose?

I think I chose something about UV light, but I don't think it's correct

and for another question, was it hypothalamus or medulla??

ya i was wondering about that hypothalamus/medulla question... i put hypothalamus cause it talked about temperature control

crap I don't know why but I chose medulla for some reason, lol....even though I did a kaplan subject test on friday that had the same question and the answer was hypothalamus.

Do you guys remember the question about the fetal dev at the end of the 1st trimester?

haha I chose medulla too. I also just realized an hour ago that I had the same question in Kaplan subject test...sigh...

I'm sure the answer for the trimester questions is the one saying that the major organs have developed. I'm sure that's the correct answer.

BTW, Does anyone remember anything about the primitive organism question?

Ya i put organs are developed after first trimester... i think thats right... for the primitive organism question i think i put the one about UV light but i was really unsure for that one... birth control question anyone remember the answer for that one?

The answer is something about FSH and LH. I know that for sure cause I read an article about it before the test.

there was a question about acetylcholine, parasympathetic and sympathetic...I just can't remember the exact question and what I put...

Can anyone remember this question?

yep, homeostasis = hypothalamus and involuntary actions = medulla, so def the hypothalamus for that question.
Matrix do you remember what else it was asking about acetylcholine, para and symp?...can't seem to remember which one that was.

I'm not sure but I think it asked something like this...acetylcholine was blocked and which systems would be affected...something like this..but again I can't remember exactly...

I think I chose somatic and parasympathetic....but I'm not sure..I don't even remember what I chose...lol

Hey Colos, what did you choose for the primitive organism question??
I really want to know...

hm, I don't remember reading a question with what if acetylcholine was blocked...but I would have picked parasymp for sure, but can't even think what I would put for the second part lol.
Oh and for the primitive organism one...if I'm even thinking of the right one, I probably went with the Ozone blocking the UV rays option.

I'd definitely take chem over the bio any day....only so much you can do with chem, but bio...who knows what their smoking when they make that.

^I totally agree..
I took it the same day and i heard that a lot of ppl that took it that day were all walking out saying that they nailed the bio... (it's on a curved basis, rite?)
but for me it sucked cuz i had to change my dat date to the friday before (20th) and i was the ONLY one in the room and the guy was like staring at me while eating his snacks at the same time.. LoL

Yea i put electrophoresis , and goggles too lol
and i think i went with the ozone and UV one..
i thought science was ok and PAT was easier than anything ive done it seemed like, except that one that looked like a staircase i was looking at that for like 5 min lol
i didnt have time to smooth out my carving...
and i was so nervous that i didnt see the last 2 pages (9 questions) of RC cuz u know how they had Q #41 or somehting then all this blank space under... made me think that was the end 🙁 and i had some time left over too! gayyyy
I finally realized it as the guy was walking over to collect my paper, so I guesssed C for all 9 questions... I was sad about that for like the rest of the day. SIGHHHH..

anyway, we get our score soon! AHHHHH

What do you mean you had to change your date to the Friday before? And how were you the only one in the room?

Are you sure you are tallking about the Canadian DAT?
