I know that AAMC waives primary application fees for first 13 schools ( if one is qualifed for FAP). But what about secondary applications? is it only for 13 schools or more?

I am applying to more than 13 schools, would all schools participating in FAP waive secondary fees for me or only those that AAMC waived fees for?

Just about all schools will offer you a complete waiver for their secondary, no matter how many secondaries you fill out.

yeah, out of the 18 schools i'm applying to, only one does not offer a fee waiver. and i'm pretty sure the rest (above 13) will approve you if you've been approved for FAP. don't worry about it.

wait, wait, so you are sayin FAP covers more than 13 school? how would you request more than 13? call schools directly?

no. when you fill out secondaries they will ask for payment and you can either pay or they have a fee waiver option. you check off the fee waiver. they will probably ask for a copy of the FAP page where you were approved and oyu can send that

I was approved for FAP and only applied to 13 schools and they all didn't waive my secondary. Your primary fees will get waived up to 13, but the school doesn't have to waive your secondary fee. It is school dependent. Good luck and God bless.

almost EVERY school waives the secondary fee (just look at the msar). Im applying to 44 and only the univ of maryland will not waive it. So I would not worry too much about that. As long as the school waives the fee (which everyone basically does) then you are fine. Also if you are approved for FAP schools can see it on the application, but some may still require you to send in the verification somehow.

Interesting! Will they offer waivers in the mail? Also, do we fill out most of the secondaries online? I went to the schools' websites to look for secondary waiver but couldn't find any.

this is the first i've ever heard of something like this. i'm confused/worried now 🙁

A handful of schools will not waive their secondary fees even if you get the FAP. These schools are the exception rather than the rule.

right, that's what i thought. so BlackDr2b just happened to apply to 13 of the schools that don't waive the fee? that's odd.

These are the schools that do not take FAP waivers
Howard, university of hawaii, indiana, tulane, university of maryland, oklahoma, medical college south carolina, south dakota, and texas tech. Every other US MD school will take a FAP waiver. This is for this coming cycle only and can change each cycle.

Outside of tulane and maryland, most people do not apply to the other schools unless you are an in state resident. So theres really not a whole lot to worry about, your secondary fees are basically free for most applicants.

i'm pretty sure NYMC doesn't. although maybe i read the list wrong; perhaps i'll go check the MSAR again.

Last year they did not, but it is changed for this year.

:O i thought only 13 primaries were waived and we were on our own for secondaries (shows what I know). I think my list of schools that I will apply to is going to get much much longer...

i should probably invest in an msar too (but then again sdn has never let me down- this being a case in point 🙂)

Will the schools automatically know that I've got FAP and send secondary fee waivers to me?

some schools do know such as creighton so you wont have to send them anything as they can tell from your application. However im sure not all schools are this way. Which never made sense to me but w/e...when you get the secondary im hoping it tells you or worst case scenario, you just call the school when you get the secondary.

Could anyone fill me in regarding the guidelines for FAP elgibility?

these school dont do primary AND secondary? or just secondary?

No, you will have to send them a copy of it.
Not all. I believe most of the schools I applied to I didn't have to verify anything. Some I did have to send a copy of the waiver.

Some will know automatically, some will require a hard copy, some will take an email.

I made a PDF of the confirmation page on the AAMC website and either printed or emailed copies to whoever needed it.
Just make sure you read carefully, the website of the secondary will tell you.

Could you plz clarify a bit?
I got an email from AAMC saying I'm granted FAP << can I send them this ?

And when should I send fap to schools?

University of Miami doesn't take a FAP waiver either.

When you send in the secondary.

When you send in the secondary.
Is this how it goes? --> I'll send proof of FAP along with secondaries to the schools, without paying secondary fees?
IF a school doesn't accept or grant me secondary fee waiver, it will notify me and that's when I'll pay the secondary fees?

Hello!!!! Anyone?

like everyone has said before it depends on the school. some schools will waive it automatically, so that when you submit your secondary it will say fee waived. some schools require documentation. If the schools require documentation it will tell you when you submit the secondary. wait until you submit secondaries before you send unnecessary paperwork to the admissions office.

i applied to 28 schools last cycle. only 5 of them required me to send in documentation. most of them received the information from amcas that I qualified for fap. don't stress about it.

Hello everyone,

I am wondering if theres any link to find which school don't participate in Fee Waiver... I know MSAR tells but my local library is close for the weekend 😡

I was shocked that Tulane doesnt, so im rearrange my list of schools

Are you really not going to apply to a certain school because they didn't take your fee waiver? that's.. sort of selling yourself short, isn't it? I mean, you're saving so much money already from amcas and other secondary fees from the fee waiver. Is that wise to take a school off your list?

Well you have to think about it this way. If a school does not take your fee waiver, you are stuck with paying ~$90 secondary application fee.

Instead of spending $90 on a secondary, you can apply to three more schools ($30 each amcas fee) for the same price. I'd rather apply to more schools than pay that much for a secondary fee.

i kind of like this logic, but still... there are so few schools that don't take the fee waiver, so at most i imagine someone would apply to 1 or 2 of them. if they are on your list because they are good fits for you and realistic options, i would still spend the money and apply. it will be SO worth it in the end. i guess it's really about how good a match the school is... i wouldn't waste the money on a reach.

When you guys say "confirmation" for FAP, do you mean a print out of the FAP Homepage where it says you were granted the wee faiver? OR the actual e-mail that the AAMC sends to let you know that you qualified for FAP?

i'm actually not sure abt this one... I registered for my MCAT with reduced price, so I assume that I received it. And now I wonder how can i use it when i turn in my AMCAS.

I just need this piece of information to finalize my school list, because i really think i am applying to too many schools (50+)... so yea

AMCAS will know automatically and you won't be charged for the primary (except after 13 schools).

ah, i see. maybe call their office?

How can I make sure that I my fees will be waived for the secondaries? would schools automatically know that I am qualified for FAP?

Most already know. Some require that you mail in proof of the waiver, for which I just printed out the front page of the FAP site that said I was waived.
