Hello All,

I graduated from a top 5 university with a cumulative gpa of 3.5 and a science gpa of 3.2-3.3. My MCAT score was a 31S (PS 10, BS 10, VR 11). I am also a Texas resident.

I have extensive volunteer experience at free clinics, shadowed physicians, and have worked at a non-profit organization for two years focusing on community outreach and health education. I was involved in a club sport and also did mental health work as an undergrad. I have two abstract acceptances and have been presented posters at several conferences.

I would appreciate some feedback on the 30 schools (is this overkill?) that I have decided to apply to, and if I should add / cut any of them. Thank you so much!!

Since I think you are "safe" to get into a Texas school. I would cut down some on the schools that are safety schools for you.

I would leave all my dreams and keep some safety schools. Personally, I think 20 schools would be plenty. Noone can tell you what schools you may want to attend. Check the MSAR, decide which safety schools you like best, and keep everything Texas.

:luck:

Unless money is no object, you might want to take out schools for which your BCPM GPA is at or below the 10 th%tile. The School Selection spreadsheet sticky at the top of this forum can help you with that if you don't have a copy of the MSAR to check.

With a below average GPA, an average MCAT, and a low BCPM GPA, personally I'd cut the dream schools. The ECs sound terrific BTW, but I don't think they're enough to eclipse your stats for those schools.

Thank you for all the candid feedback - I really appreciate it.

Would any of you suggest I look into DO schools, too? Sorry - just getting a wee bit nervous.

Thanks!

With a great DO school in your home state, I thinks it´s a good idea to add it to enhance your chances, but an even better idea to add some others, too. I didn´t really look at Texan expectations for BCPM GPA, but I suspect you might be at the low end for consideration. And no one wants to go through the stress of a second cycle because they mad some overly-optimistic picks.
